Small track bike
i want to get a track only bike...but i want to learn on something smaller than a 600. I hear the ninja 250's are crap for learning to race, and the NS400R's are impossible to find stateside,,,any suggestions?

An SV650, F2 or F3, an FZR. They will be pretty inexpensive. Lots of mods that are most likely done. Tire fitment isn't nearly as big of an issue as with smaller cc'd bikes.

Philbie, if i end up out your way I'm going to be looking to doing some track days out there.
You suggest something like an SV650 or older CBR then say a GSXR or F4i?
What do you mean by the tire fitment isn't as big as issue?

On bikes like EX500's they have such a narrow rim that finding rubber for them can be a bitch. Bikes that originally ran a 160 rear atleast give you some options.
And no, I would suggest getting something that suits your riding ability and will be continually fun to ride as you get faster. Personally, most of the newer 600's are forgiving enough for a newbie but can still be a handful for an advanced rider.
I've never ridden an SV but have heard really good things about them and they have alot of mods that can be done to them.

I'd recommend an EX500 or an SV

i have no problem finding 150 rear tires for my ex500. In fact, i can get you a set of Michelin H2's for 130 bucks shipped.
the ex is a great bang for the buck funwise
