Isle of Man TT
So the Isle of Man TT is on once again. Every year I not only regret the lack of coverage, but also regret me not being there!
Does anyone know how realistic it is to be able to actually enter and race in this? I am wondering just how good I would have to be to qualify for the TT. I mean it is a possibility or is it almost out of the question.
Obviously my question is a bit vague, but I just wonder how realistic my dream to someday compete in the TT is.

Just from my point of view, It seems to me that to actually be competative there you have to race it often. Most of the faster guys actually live on the Island. That place has no margin of error for sure. But there are alot of people that race it, at least thats what I understand from watching the review every year. Could be fun but Im sure even the "slow" guys are friggen fast as hell.

There are qualification times for each class in race, plus you need to run in the Junior TT before you can even think about signing up for the full on TT.
You live in LA? Check out the movie "One Man's Island" for some refrences. This guy that lived on this side of the pond sold his house, quit his job and moved there, to the Isle, with the hopes of racing in the IOMTT just once before he died. He is no slouch of a racer, and he barely made it, but he went broke and far into debt doing it.
I suggest you and anyone else that ever wanted to race the IOM but can't cause we just live too damned far away start a petition to whatever powers that be to get an American equivelant of the same thing.
Negative point to that one - To get MotoGP back to the US, Wayne Rainey had to fork over 2 million of his own cash just to get the Laguna Seca raceway up to Motogp safety standards before Yamaha would even consider coming down and fixing what was left. (like another 5 mil).
Buy the DVD's man. That's all I can do. I buy the IOMTT dvd's and watch the laps from the onboard camera, get a spare set of handlebars, put my suit on, and pretend.
(i think the qualifying time is something like 24 minutes or something, on the full on 60mi course). It's something terrifying like that, and they don't care if it's raining or not, your butt better be out there qualifying.
Like I said, check out the One Man's Island. He did it. it's also a great story.

Welcome to the 99th running of the IoM TT! My favorite motor racing event.
As for having a TT on this side of the Atlantic, check out the Cape Breton Festival of Speed. Sept '06.

It's in Nova Scotia, Canada. But hey, it's closer than the Isle of Man.
