So my first race of the season is in two weeks...
And I threw a rod in my SV. Lucky me... spent all winter making her pretty and fast and this happens. Murphy always bites me in the ass. Luckily my Dad just informed me that he bought another SV, we'll swap the engine and rebuild the old one. It will be a nice feeling to have a back-up bike for those fun crashing days. Unfortunately I will have to run on a completely stock motor for the first race....How is everyone else doing in anticipation of the new season?
PS- screw all you folks that can race all year round

I unfortunately had to bail out on racing at Road America this weekend. Of course since I'm not going, the weather is supposed to be good which makes it that much worse since that is extremely rare at that event.
I definately need to have a back-up, back-up, back-up, back-up, back-up plan ready from now on!

Is your motor built up? SVs are usually solid.

You are missing out on one hell of a weekend Mike. I was at Road A on Wednesday and Thursday with NESBA. Wednesday was a bit cold and windy, but if the sun was out, it was pretty nice. Thursday... Oh my god, what an incredible day. 70 and sunny. Ran a 2:47 and probably a little faster, but someone put up a second transponder towards the end of the day thursday which messed up my lap timer. Of course, just when my corner speed picks up and Im taking turns one gear higher than I was before, my lap timer cant get an accurate reading.
Im not trying to rub anything in Mike, I am just pumped about my first experience at Road America. I figure 2:47's put me mid-pack amature. I know I was passing any number of yellow plate riders Thursday, but not all of them.

So I pulled the engine and I had spun the bearing. Figured out what happened also: last race of last season was ended by a crash. I think the bike over-revved because when I stopped sliding and went to the bike it wasn't running. Never even thought it wouldn't start, so I never tried. Picked up the new bike today (another SV) and I am gonna do the engine swap and rebuild the old one. Yay for having two bikes!!
PS- I'm gonna paint them exactly the same which is gonna be sweet!!

A function of many popular lap timers is being able to set a minimum and maximum lap time, this is specifically handy in the event of multiple beacons being set-up along side the track. Usually extra beacons are done by someone who wants 'split times' of sections of the track to watch their improvement in specific sections of the track (or to compare to other peoples times in sections) or if they don't like the spot where their lap timer is being tripped. By setting the minimum lap time just below your best lap time it will eliminate other beacons from tripping your onboard timer, how close to your best lap times depends on how close together the beacons are. Many lap timers come with the default minimum time at "0" or very low, so they get tripped by almost every beacon, you need to read the instructions and figure out if this is an option on yours and figure out how to set it to what you want it to do.
Your 2:47's at RA are respectable as an Amateur, you'll find there will be landmark things that will make you improve by leaps and bounds as you get more experience. I think my best time at RA ever was around 2:25, that puts your pace only 15% off of my best, that's definately good enough to be racing.
I really regret not going, even more so since I can't get my $225 pre-entry back either! I'm going from an unfavorable situation to a really good one in about 10 days so that frustrates me even more, knowing that if it were after that time I would be going without any problem at all. Oh well, so is life, live and learn!
