Why isn't Mat Mladin getting promoted?
Can someone explain to me why when Mat Mladin has won 5 consecutive AMA superbike titles he is still there? Nicki Hayden won a few and went straight to Moto GP. I'd think that he'd at least go to World Superbike.
Any thoughts?

Either that or he's afraid of being near the bottom if he upgrades to the higher classes. I'm sure racing in MotoGP pays more than AMA... Nicky dominated and he wanted a new challenge. He's definitely doing great and you can see him improving. Maybe Mat likes to be on top and just wants to keep it that way.
Just my 2 cents.

Nah!
Nickey was in his prime, age wise to go ride GP. Definitely a learning curve between the two and age can play a significant role.
My 2 cents

Matt used to ride 500 gp. As well as Chandler and a few others. It is all about marketing and the results you produce. Matt has had the best results riding in the AMA series, he is getting towards the end of a career so to speak. Younger riders heal faster and are more apt to learn a little quicker so its natural to send them to the big leagues before they are set in a rut.
It is an unfortunate event in any case but look at people like Colin Edwards and the like. Most of these riders are displaced at one time or another because of the manufacturer's ideals. You wont see any significant changes made to something that works.
Whats the old addage? If it aint broke, dont fix it!

Matt has stated in several interviews he was content racing AMA. What he can't really say is that Suzuki doesn't have a MotoGP ride worth moving up for. He has tested the GSVR several times and if he really wanted to be there he would be.

The shear challenge would make me move to motogp, Yea hes a AMA star, but I wouldnt be content with stopping there, why not give it a shot while your still able too, even if its for 2 years or so, just to say you tried is enough at the Motogp level. And everyone Im not saying that im better then Matt......

He's been in the GP circus, briefly. He's got everything he could ever want right here, right now.
Wife, family, money, security, top notch team, money. And this year, maybe some deep competition again.
His challenge right now is in getting a brand new racebike up to speed with the increasingly competitive field.
Honda, hell! Watch out for the rejuvenated Ducati teams.
-Edit And they weren't all consecutive Championships. Nicky would have something to say about that.
5 total, so far...

he's also stated that he is too big physically to ride a GP bike competitivly. The heavier weight of the superbikes balances out that.

He also said that if he went back, and even if he changed bikes, it would be way too hard to get a factory ride. So since he is very happy and comfortable here, he doesn't want to leave. He also said that he doesn't see the WSB as much of a step up.
