Default You might try

starting with the article on how to become a roadracer.
Otherwise start small a 250 or a 500 well teach you the basics, and remember
if everyone is on the same ride its a great time.
You will need leathers and a good helmet. I will be posting an article on a very good inexpensive suit.............. keep an eye on the gear section.
look up some of the posts by gsxr mike he has put up some good stuff on the subject........

This is one funny post. Your best class to start in would be the MSF class.

Get a couple of years of riding under you then step up to racing! Maybe some track days before full fledged racing. The pace of a race is so much faster than a track day not to mention passing and being passed in a corner and you can read the gauges of the bike next to you.

For gear: A good 1 piece or 2 piece suit with 360* zipper. Race boots. A good helmet. Gauntlet gloves.

A bike that you will probably throw down the track sooner or later. Race plastics. Spare parts. Safety wiring.

As for classes, it's pretty broad. 40-60 open class 600 bikes all diving into the same first corner starting a race is a little intimdating to say the least!

Why don't you actually take the MSF course and buy a motorcycle. Maybe after a few thousand miles in the real world you might discover you aren't the next Nicky

Here's a post from another forum that I agree whole heartedly with:

Quote:
My suggestion for new riders is as follows:

Dirt ride first, if at all possible. Learn all the basics of riding a motorcycle OFF THE STREET.

MSF beginner course.

MSF experienced course.

Then either move to the ARC courses... or track days... or both, ideally.
That's more for how to get into riding... Racing takes things a few steps further. Track days are becoming a must nowadays. Alot of rookies get eaten alive by the track day "hero's" and for good reason. They've been pushing themselves further, harder and longer than the rookie who hasn't done a year or so worth of track days. They're more familiar w/ their limits, more familiar w/ their bikes limits and just have an edge in all aspects of racing over those who skipped track days & went straight to racing from the street.

Racing is considered by many to be the pinacle of motorcycling. In order to get there and expect to do well, you have to start w/ the basics. set yourself a SOLID foundation, take your time & do things right. Rush this and you WILL get burned! I took MSF back in 2001. I began doing track days in 2003. I began racing in 2006 and I have done well because I took my time and listened to my EXPERIENCED peers. I've recently reached the point where now I'm one of those experienced peers helping out the newbies like yourself. I began instructing part time at a local track day organization that helps train street riders to become more familiar w/ the limitations of their bike. So far I've gotten just as much pleasure out of doing this as I have out of racing.

Get into the track day scene and you'll start meeting people who race. Seek out the guys w/ race plates & ask them who you can talk to about getting into racing the right way. More often than not they'll be more than happy to point you in the right direction or kinda take you under their wing. Racers are some of the most approachable people I've ever met.

Lastly, check out this thread if you haven't already... I went a little more into detail about how to get into racing & track days:
Getting started...

But for right now, concentrate on building your foundation.
