Keith Code or Freddie Spencer
thinkin of going next year sometime, i've looked into both of them, i like the fact freddie raced motogp.
keith code has all those specialty bikes and teaches at more tracks...
anyone have any experience with them? i'm in san diego so preferable a school that teaches here or in vegas.

In my opionion................................
freddies school is the way to go, I have not gone but I know people who have and have done some research and for the money you wont get a better deal for what you get out of it.
freddie is a gp champion, keith is ?????, look at the level of the racing they did and compare what they have to offer.

I think it also has to do with what your looking to achieve, you didn't say if your a street rider, track day rider, potential racer, or current racer of some level? I gained ALOT out of Kieth Codes books when I got into racing, they were a great foundation of knowledge for me and still provide refreshing insight when I sometimes lose site of the basics and look for things to be much more difficult than they may be. I've heard good things about both schools, I would find out exactly what it is that you'll be getting for the same money and go from there. I've heard way too many stories of people doing schools or whatever and being disappointed because they THOUGHT they were going to be getting something else. Know what your getting ahead of time.

I've taken 4 levels of the Code school and I'd give it an endorsement for at least the first 3 levels. The drills are well thought and and have relevance to riding fast on track.
I will also say that I haven't taken the Spencer School, so I can't really comment.

I met the guys out at Freddie Spencer when I was in Vegas last week....I looked at the courses offered for instruction and they have a heck of alot to offer. I have read Twist of the Wrist one by Code and am now starting Twist of the wrist two. FB GSXR Racer Mike and Whitman have more experience in this than I will ever have...Listen to them.....I personally am going the cheap route and hitting up Ed Bargy's race school just to get my race license and start getting the OJT!

i have twist of the wrist I & II sitting on my bookshelf... i've read through them botha few times each.
It's always been a dream of mine to race... and i figure i might as well take a racing school so i don't make too many mistakes up front that would cost me $$$ !
I guess my question is what school is better suited for getting started in amateur racing.

Honestly, both.
If you want a racing specific school, Code R.A.C.E. is the CSS's race specific school. Also, you can find schools that are racing specific through the WERA and CCS boards. They will probably not teach you much technique, but will teach you racing specific information.

DING! right answer
no education is bad education.... but there are different types of schools... there's schools that teach you technique & there's schools that teach you rules... and the schools that teach you both. You need both to compete effectively and safely.
As far as my experience goes, all i've done is the Cornerspeed Level I course and a whole ton of Tony's Trackdays.... I'd really like to check out the Jason Pridmore STAR school & the Penguin Advanced school sometime in the future though. Those are the two more advanced ones that come to Loudon.

Well speaking of costing you money...Code at least has some options that allow you to use your own bike. What is the point of doing a race/track school and paying a bunch of extra money to ride on their bikes? I am sure both are great schools, but I just don't see the point of not using your own bike (btw I signed up for a day at Laguna Seca through Code in March).
People can comment all they want to how Spencer went further with his racing career. Just because someone won a championship doesn't mean they are a better instructor. And besides, even some of your top riders on a street would get smoked on the track by the instructors at either of these schools...which means they can teach you plenty.
Good luck with the venture into racing...I just bought my race bike this past weekend!!!!

the point of using their bikes is that for that kind of money you don't have to worry about a mechanical problem and they don't have to worry about everybody having different bikes or having tech requirements, all you have to do is show up and they have everything ready, no worries, allows you to concentrate on riding and learning not on getting your bike ready
I did the Freddie Spencer school at Miller last June and it was an incredible experience! Honestly there is no way any school is better than that, the entire weekend went perfectly.
Honestly I don't like Code, he always seems like he's just trying to piss of everybody
I swear he's gonna come out with a book one day that says riding backwards is the key to going faster just to mess with people
I've read his books and when reading them its hard to tell if he's really smart or completely retarded
Nick's book is much better IMHO and its more about real world riding on the street and track than Code's book which is almost entirely theory and wannabe physics
