Default silly question...

as a person who would like to take his street bike and do some track days with it, but still keep it legal for street riding, what is usually required of my bike for a track day? do i have to remove the signals, tags, headlight or can i leave that stuff on? i've noticed that people that post pics of their track days always show their bike without signals, but is it required?

any info would be helpful!

thanks!!!

Yup.

It depends on what organization you go through. But most have a list of "Bike set-up" or Preperation. Most say to remove them or Duct tape them.

yup... the general prep as far as body work goes is tape over all lights and remove brake light bulbs or pull the fuses.

I remove my mirrors and license plate as well.

In addition, I safety wire my oil filter with the help of a hose clamp. My oil drain plug is also drilled for wiring. Don't ruin people's day just cuz something worked it's way out and your bike spilled oil all over the place.

Here's the bike prep page on the local trackday website in my neck of the woods. The rules vary from track to track & organization to organization, but this page is pretty indicative of what the common rules are and will help you make sure your bike is track worthy.

I remove my mirrors & turn signals. It makes fewer pieces to buy if you crash, plus the bike looks cleaner that way for the pics.

do you have sliders, too? is it difficult to fish the wire back thru when you go to put the signals back on after?

Yes, I have sliders.

It's not difficult to get the turn signals back on. I just hold the stem up to the hole in the fairing, push the wire through, then put the plate on over the screw in the stem (on the inside of the fairing) and thread the wire through it's hole in the plate, and thread the nut back on the screw. Then plug the TS back in.

Your bike might be different though.

The worst part for me is threading the nut back on. If I drop it (and I do alot) it falls down inside the fairing.

I'm not at all mechanically inclined, but I can prep and unprep my bike for a track day. It's not difficult, at least not with my bike.
