Default Tape it? My first track day

Ok, two questions...both regarding 'tape'

I am doing my first track day on Monday. One of the guys I am going with claims we have to us duct tape over our lights. I thought they had some other kind of tape at the track for us to use. I just don't like the idea of duct tape because it always leaves that sticky residue. What do you folks recommend for taping up your lights?

Also, the trackday I am going to (Buttonwillow in CA) has a guy that will do video for $50. But I have no clue of the quality...obviously will ask him, but wondering if any of you have experience with people that film track days for you. Will I really be able to tell how I am doing with my lines, form, etc.?

Can't wait! Thanks for any advice...

Use Painters Tape, it won't leave a residue on the lights. And yes you will get to see how you are doing with your lines....

Vinyl like they use in decals , works great for taping stuff up , and it usually doesnt leave a residue , unless you leave it on for months, and of course you can get it in colors to match your bike . Just look up Vinyl decals in the phone book .

Use duct tape. unplug the headlights, or remove the fuse. Take the tape off at the end of the track day. The adhesive residue is very easily removed if you follow these steps. A small amount of 3M wax, tar, bug removal spray makes it a snap. A lot of track day hosting companies will not allow painters tape to pass tech inspection. The video guy is pretty good if he's the one I am thinking of, but you did not indicate his name or the name of the track day host.

Have a great time at your first track day. If you ever want to do any track days at Willow Springs or Streets of Willow, check us out. www.mtctrackday.com

If you dull the adhesive on the tape first it will come off with no residue. Just lightly apply it to any kind of cloth or clothing first, and it will take off some of the adhension.

Use the Blue Painters Masking tape at Home Depot. It is specially made to come off easily with little to no residue to clean up. If I make it to a track day anytime soon I will be using that. Great stuff, I use it all the time for other things.

Well, just don't be offended if you get sent back to your pit to remove the painters tape and replace it with duct tape before your bike will pass tech. Your bike is not going to be destroyed or damaged by the tape in any way, and it's used for a reason, why make it such a big deal?

I went with the duct tape and it didn't leave as much residue as I thought it would. Had a great time at the track...will be posting a seperate thread about it.

The video guy was Steve Weir...rides a ZX-10. I haven't gotten the video yet but he seemed like a cool guy and it looks like he really knows how to ride.

Will look into to those trackdays.

Why not do a layer of painters tape w/ duct tape over the top of it?

I don't know about anyone else, but after on my second trackday I was getting my knee down in every turn at Barber except the fast chicane in the back. I would love to have a video of my first day and then maybe after my next on June 4 to see the improvement.
