Very nice glad to see you had fun and didn't go down! I'm glad your friend wasn't to bad after you saw him go down. I am looking at doing my first track day real soon, but i am curious... What kinda of tires were you using on your bike for the track and how confident did you feel with them compared to your normal tires (if different)? My main concern is tires at the moment, i am afraid of going down due to the tires not sticking since it would be a first for me as well when i get the time and money to go out there...

First of all congrats on you first track day!! Sounds like you really enjoyed yourself. I am kind of curious like Psycho, I've never been on the track either but the more I read about it and hear about it the more I would really like to do it one of these days. What do you need to do to your bike exactly?? How does the hole thing work?? Is it like a race or are you just riding around the track with others? I'm sure people are going to think I'm a moron but I've never been to a track day.

Blackhawk Farms Baby!!! South Beloit. It all depends upon how you sign up. One of the schools we (Actually Hawker as I have yet to attend and ride!) go through is learning curves:

I was using Metzeler Sportec M1s. They were really good. My rear tire broke traction only once, coz I downshifted too much and gassed it coming out of the turn. The feedback is amazing though. I felt it break away just as it was happening, so I could correct it very easily. About the trackday, it was a private trackday organized by a group of people I ride with called CFCR. www.cfcycle.com There wasnt any school or anything to teach us. It was basically a go out there and ride kinda thing. The trackday cost me 100$ ,compared to the normal 125 $ because it was a private trackday. I dint have to do anything but the basic things like tape up headlights and remove fuses. I dint do anything abt the coolant and safety wiring and stuff. I would definitely would like to have done the school first though. That way I am aware of what I may be doing wrong. Hope that helps.

Basically you just ride around the track. Find someone that rides better than you and try follow their lines on the track. One thing I have to say is that you need to have a liking for curves and corners and turns. If your the kind of person who just enjoys riding for pleasure,or likes drag racing you wont get as much as enjoyment out of track as I did. To me it was all about being smooth ,precise and getting faster with each lap around the track. One important thing is that the bike will keep going straight. You have to lean inorder to make it lean. I know it sounds dumb, but one of my friends couldnt understand why he was slow. It was because he was standing it upright through the corners. Anyways..I dont think I know as much to tell you guys..Im sure there are a lot of track junkies here, that can tell you exactly what track riding is all about. . For me it was paradise !! just like Rascus's Avatar says !!

We are looking to go to the Memorial day one at Blackhawk....let me know if you plan on being there!!!
So basically you go down and pay the fee and go through the schooling?? That would totally be worth it I think.
Thanks for the great info. I need to get down there and do it one of these times. It's only about 45 minutes from me. I need to get some more gear though. I don't think I'll get down this year yet but hopefully next year I'll be ready (and hopefully less busy!)
I also noticed that they have the CCS races down there quite a bit in the summer, have you ever been to them?? If so, are they fun to watch?? I think I'll hit a few of these this summer.

Glad you had fun and were safe out there. Don't be cheap when it comes to replacing your tires. When you feel them giving you the signal that they're on the way out, replace them. For me, that's one nice slide on corner exit. I've seen far too many people try to stretch tire-life that wish they hadn't.
I replace mine after every two full track days. I could possibly go to three days but I'd rather not chance it.
BlazenFire, sounds like you had a blast. Congrats on the first track day and my sympathy to your wife (if you're married) because you're gonna be broke as hell if you're addicted ;-).
I hope you don't mind a little constructive criticism. You're body position isn't bad, but you need to lower you head down a bit. The best advise I've heard is to try to kiss the mirrors (naturally they won't be there).
Otherwise, you're lookin good. Keep up the good work!
I'm hoping to start doing track days after a race school, which would all happen in the season after this coming one (2006). Cuz...right now I've only got one summer under my belt, here in Alberta that equals 5 months (when lucky), so yeah. Also...I wanna have time to get used to the 636 I'll be picking up in the next week or two (Wooh!!) So yeah, can't wait!!
awesome, i think its very easy to get up to speed on a f4i since its such a confidence inspiring bike. I didn't drag my knee till the 2nd day! You might want to invest in aftermarket rearsets though, I had my feelers off. Despite hanging off the bike as much as I possibly ground, I ground down both the stock pegs pretty good without the feelers on. Yea it was cool, but I also ground down the edges on my sidi boots too.
