Default Opinions?

Hey guys, I'm new around here and glad to be here. I need some of your opinions. I don't currently have a "track bike", and would really like something for track dut only. I'm good friends with the president of our local road racing club, and his son has his R6 race bike up for sale. I'm really considering buying it, to begin road racing with. As far as engine is concerned, it's pretty stock, but the suspension is full ohlins. It's got an ohlins steering stabalizer too. I haven't gotten too many other details on the bike, but I do know that it's mechanically sound. I know that is was broken in well too, because the owner and his dad are both experienced racers, who take very good care of their bikes. What do you guys think, and what would you pay for it? In the pic it is the red R6, #222.

What year is the bike? What kind of title (clean, salvage, none..) and mileage does the bike have?

And are the forks true ohlins forks or are they the stockers with ohlins springs? Just looking at the picture those look like stock forks.. Reworking the stock forks would cost 3-400 bucks, ohlins R&T forks are around 2 grand..

Just for comparison.. there was a '99 R6 near me that needed bodywork for $2800, it was a track bike too with a penske shock, some damper and reworked forks.. I think the guy sat on the bike for quite a while too at that price..

Looks pretty clean. I would research the machine in detail to make the most informed decision.

Hope That Helps!

Thanks for the input. It's an '02, and the forks and shock are genuine Ohlins <---- panting. lol, I know its in good shape, but I havent actually seen the bike in person yet. I didn't ask about the title on the bike, but it would not suprise me if it was salvage, because of the fact that it's a race bike, and the current owner does ride hard.... very hard. But $5000 does sound about right to me, and thats about like what i was thinking. Well, I'll keep you guys informed on whether or not I actually go through with it.
