What do you ride at the track?
Hey Guys,
Experience is the best teacher, especially if you can learn from other's experience. Please humor a rookie!
1. What bike are you currently using for track days / racing? (Year, Make Model, i.e. 2003 Yamaha R6). What major mods have you done or what mods are you planning?
2. If you had it to do over, would you buy a different bike or would you buy the same bike again? Why?
3. With unlimited funds, what would you be riding?
This should be fun! Thanks in advance for your insights!

1. 2002 Yamaha R6, Akra slip on, Sportec M1 tyres. I need a new chain so I am going -1 in the front and I plan on putting some diablo corsa's on it as well. Maybe rearsets at some point.
2. Love the bike. Easy to turn, fast, and brakes well. Has treated me well during my 1st few times on a track.
3. With unlimited funds, I might be on a gsxr-750, any italian v-twin, or a brand new 600 w/ fuel injection (sucks trying to start mine when it's lower then 40 degrees out).

Sportbike: 1996 Yamaha FZR600 and 2 WERA Vintage: 1994 FZR600 and 1978 CB750F2
|
Well, I'm an oddball as I am setting up to run Vintage rather than Production. I'm building both bikes as we speak.
My track rides are a 1994 FZR600 (being built mainly as a track day ride) and a 1978 CB750F2 for vintage racing. The CB should be ready to go by the end of the year with final prep on the FZR finishing over the winter. I'm not insane enough to want to do production-based racing.
With unlimited funds, I would honestly get into GP250s. I would love to campaign a Honda RS250R in the 250cc GP classes with a spare bike and a large amount of spares. And also add all the race bits and get the engine done on my CB750. I'm looking to have fun and ride for myself. I'm not in it for contingency or prize money.

I race `03 RSV Mille R, Akrapovic SBK full sistem with cip, EVO air box, -2 front +2 rear and i`m not planing to invest in her anymore, to mutch money/ power, doesnt make sense when you compete against `04 L4`s.
I love this bike, it`s a piece of art, brakes are awsome, suspension also, turn quick and fell like its on rails, the only problem its in power department, dont get me wrong, this bike it`s a beast but it doesn`t have the top end like a L4.
If i had the cash i`ll buy a new litre bike and upgrade her with all the goodies from my rsv.

Sportbike: Yep I've got one or two.
|
1. Current bike is a 04 CBR600RR with Öhlins rear shock, Öhlins fork springs, Arata full system, PCIII USB, Scott's damper, 520 chain & sprockets (15/45), and a few other mods.
2. Nope, I'm happy with the 600RR.
3. 05 Aprilia RSV 1000 R Factory, but I'd still keep the 600RR.

1. 03 GSX-R600 with Traxxion Dynamics fork forks, Hindle full system, BMC filter, Hotbodies, and a GPR damper. Currently running Pirelli Dragon Supercorsas.
2. I would keep the gixxer for sure.
3. With unlimited funds I'd probably pick up a Ducati 749R.

Bone stock 600RR except for race fairings and DOT's. So far, very happy with the front and rear springs/valving.
Desperately hoping to find the money for those Carbon Fiber wheels Flatout has been pushing lately.

1) 03 R6. Rennsport race plastics, graves fairing stay, devil shotgun exhuast, pciii usb with custom map, woodcraft strator covers, GP shift pattern, scotts steering damper, 15/48 520 conversion. Galfer SS brake lines, ebc hh pads, Vortex Clip ons. Probably some other odds/ends im forgetting...
2) Same bike, however, I would go about the mods completely differently. Leave it bone stock, do as many track days as I have, then get suspension first. Then after that, go for full system, etc...
3) With unlimited funds, I'd have my current bike, latest model, best suspension, brakes, etc. Then I'd get a Ducati 749R modded to hell. Best of both worlds!

2003 R6 with olins shock in the rear, -1 in the front +2 in the rear
If I had to do it over again I'd get a Honda v4 400cc or a sv650 , I think those are better bikes to learn corner speed on.
Unlimited funds, RC211V FUCK YA!!!!! Repsol rep

When I bought my bike, I bought it brand new. I had no idea I could go to a track like JenningsGP and do trackdays. I was completely clueless. It only took 1 track day for me to fall in love.
The reason I would do it differently, is because I could be running that track just as fast as I am now w/o having spent so much money on a slip on, pciii usb, clip ons, etc.
I could have used all that money for more track time, tires, race license, etc.
If I could start all over, I'd buy a couple year old already setup track bike that has all the mods, including suspension already done it and with the money saved do more track days.
I've seen people on bone stock 03 R6's running expert at my local track insanely fast. Learn to ride, then worry about upgrades!
