Heart attack on a trike, either before or after the crash:

Looks like the Police State Surge is shooting for a higher body count than 2007.

The headline should read: Arkansas man dies from heart attack in hospital

Subheadline should read: Trikes and commercial trucks banned on the Dragon, reverse trikes welcome

Arkansas man dies on Dragon

By Jessica Stith
Maryville Daily Times
June 24. 2008

A 67-year-old Arkansas man was killed Monday when he lost control of his trike, struck a tree and fell down an embankment while riding on the Dragon.
Harold Smith, 67, Sherwood, Ark., was pronounced dead at Blount Memorial Hospital, according to Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Cory Russell.

Russell said Smith was driving a 2006 Honda GL 1800 trike northbound at 12:16 p.m. on the Dragon, an 11-mile stretch of Calderwood Highway that has more than 300 curves. He said it appeared that Smith lost control when his rear tire raised up while driving through a curve.

"(Smith) was negotiating a curve when he lost control of his vehicle." Russell said. "He attempted to correct his vehicle and when he did, he overcorrected."

Smith's trike crossed the double lines on the highway, went off the left side of the road and struck a tree. Russell said his trike ?rolled 150 feet down an embankment? and Smith fell about 25 feet down.

Russell said a friend of Smith and an off-duty medic who was passing by attempted to give CPR to Smith on the scene. He was taken by Rural/Metro Ambulance Service to Blount Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Smith was wearing a helmet and Russell said speed was not a factor in the cause of the accident.

Blount County Sheriff's deputies, members of the Blount County Volunteer Rescue Squad and Blount County firefighters assisted THP and Rural/Metro at the scene.

The wreck resulted in the eighth traffic fatality in Blount County so far this year. At this time in 2007, there had been 13 traffic fatalities. Smith?s death was the second traffic fatality so far this year on the Dragon.
Just last week local news was selling the Police State on the Dragon as the cure for crashes. In fact it lowers the bar for rookie riders who fail to respect the Dragon.

Note that the most risky part of any crash is the hospital.

"The most stunning statistic, however, is that the total number of deaths caused by conventional medicine is an astounding 783,936 per year. Using Leape's 1997 medical and drug error rate would add another 216,000 deaths, for a total of 999,936 deaths annually. It is now evident that the American medical system is the leading cause of death and injury in the US."

"Ethicists and emergency medicine experts are raising concerns over New York City's plan to dispatch the first ambulance service in the country equipped to preserve the organs of the newly deceased. They question whether the organ-preserving ambulances will create tension among EMTs who may be charged both to save lives and to preserve organs for reuse. The aim of the Rapid Organ Recovery Ambulance service, city officials say, is to buy precious time for families to decide whether they want their loved ones' organs to be donated to needy patients. New York City plans to start the service rolling within a month. And the plan, which has already received federal funding, is being eyed as a possibility by other emergency medical departments."

Heart attacks are a serious "cause" of crash fatalities.

A local pilot crashed ina tree with his wife, no injuries. Before he was rescued he died of a heart attack.

A local dirt track racer finished a race, pulled in the pits, stepped out of his car and died of a heart attack. Ambualnce was there in 60 seconds, helicopter in 15 mintues, but it made no difference.

The Dragon is extremely exhausting to drive or ride, mentally and physically. A trike must be the worst of all, without power steering.

This old guy may have just wore himself out, got dehydrated, and his heart exploded or fried.

Which is why I'm buying a Jack LaLane Powerjuicer this week, after 40 years of procrastination.

In the meantime, the Police State on the Dragon is full speed ahead, driving in the wrong lane as usual.
