Default DVR recording question

alright, is there anyway i can take the shows i've recorded on my DVR and download them onto my laptop's hard drive?

i have read that you can download it to a SATA hard drive but only watch the shows through the DVR again. also, you can download the shows from your DVR and record them to a VCR tape, so i would assume downloading them to the puter wouldn't be a problem but i cannot find any literature on how to do this from the SATA adapter on the DVR.

i have a scientific atlanta explorer 8300HD model DVR.

thanks in advance.

I don't know about other DVRs, but I know with my TiVo, that I can transfer the shows from the DVR to my laptop and then watch them on the laptop...or burn them to DVD, or transfer them to PSP, or whatever.

I'm sure there's got to be some kind of way that you can do it.

I pay a bit more for my TiVo than I would through Comcast, but some of the features that the TiVo give me are worth the extra couple of bucks!!

Good luck!

I have an HR20 through DirecTV....the ext hard drive can only be used instead of the internal and then watched through the DVR.

To save to VHS, I would have to watch the show through the DVR and record using the VCR. Since my VCR can also record to DVD, I could do that and I assume I could take the DVD and get it to the PC hard drive.

Now if you have a high end receiver (with ethernet), you might be able to do something there. Don't know about that

Coronado go to AVS Forum and ask there. I know you can transfer via firewire with the Motorola DVR's. I am pretty sure someone there will know..

not likely....they use a unique file format and most likely have the 1394 shut down.
