Default Playing Games from External Hard Drive???

Hey everyone.

The lady has lots of games on her PC, and she's running out of hard drive space.

We have found an external USB 2.0 hard drive that she would like to buy, but we are wondering if you can install and play games from that external hard drive??

I've looked around online and found that it's possible, but it's not recommended. I also found that it's not possible. Basically, I've found that you can, and that you can't...

So I'm wondering if anyone here has any experience doing this?? If so, how did it work out???

Thanks!!!!!

From what I understand, its kind of hit or miss. Some games wont let you install to a removable drive, others dont give a shit. She may end up with a slight performance hit, but I dont see why most games would have any problems with this setup.

you can play most of them from an external hard drive cause it just sees it as data space, but by doing so you limit functionality to the speed of USB which is going to be alot slower than running from you hard drive with your processor. also it would be cheaper to buy a bigger internal hard drive, add it as another data drive that way you dont have to slow down to USB speed.

Ups and downs, might not work if you plan on running it on other computers, as some games install files in your windows directory and registry in order to run. Speed can be an issue, but not always, depends on which games. Easier to go for another internal for games, and throw your other stuff (mp3's, pics, vids) on the external.
