Unhappy Monitor help

I have a PyxScape SV3170 17" flat panel monitor that has died. It does not power up, the little LED on the front that should be red, amber, or green depending if the monitor is off, standby, or on is not on. I checked the output of the PS at the plug where it plugs into the monitor and I was getting correct voltage so I think the problem is in the monitor itself. It is 4 years old. Nobody in the town where I work will take a look at it. I tried the website for the manufacturer and it don't exist. Googled it and found nothing except reviews that are 3 - 4 years old. I assume the company is out of business? Anyone know anything about the company? Just consider it a loss and get new monitor? Thanks.

hmmmm. K, have you tried to take the back off, and see if the contacts where the plug goes in havent come loose? A loose screw on the back, or a loose board can keep the contacts from completing the circuit.
2nd, believe it or not, the on/off switch itself can fail. Have you tried to put a meter on that yet?

My advice?? Get a new monitor--ther'e super cheap these days.

Good luck.

sounds like you have a blown capacitor. Cheap monitors usually use crappy caps. If you take it apart, look for a bulging capacitor, or one with crap coming out of it.
This is what a capacitor looks like.

What you would need to do is solder off the bad one and re-solder a new one with equal voltage output. Make sure that you have the polarity correct. Match up the side with the strip to the same side it was or else it will just blow. That is if you decide you want to fix it. You also might want to look for surface mount fuses. Use the voltmeter to check for continuity across them. If you can't find anything wrong, a new monitor, even one with tv input, doesn't run too expensive anymore.

id suggest just replacing it. If you dont have much cash laying around (even though a new flat panel is like $100-$150 bucks) then pick up a used CRT for now till you can get a new one.
