Mac vs. Pc For Me
I need a new laptop since my last laptop broke. I do not play games on the laptop. I am primarily interested in movies, music, pictures, browsing the net, and doing my school work. I love my iPhone, but I've never owned a Mac. Advice?

The new macs are pretty sweet. I would go for it, check their website sometimes they have great deals for students, if your not one then pay one you know to buy it and get the savings.
Macs are very nice especially for everything you mentioned, but they are very pricey, i would look around first, they are alot different to use than a PC as well but great after you get used to it, just make sure its in your budget if you get a mac.
Just get a PC. Macs are overrated at what they are supposed to do "the best". Every piece of software that Mac gets raves for has 10+ PC software equivalents that are better than the Mac. Video editing, photo editing, music playing, games...
The PC does everything at least as well as the Mac and you'll have a much larger selection of laptops to choose from if you get one with windows.

Macs don't have bad value to hardware at all. If you price a Dell to be exactly the same CPU/memory as a MacBook, the price would be nearly exactly the same. Apple has a habit of using middle and upper CPUs instead of the cheapest CPUs. PowerBooks, however, are really expensive.
In addition, you can use bootcamp or a virtualizer to run Windows.
You would never use a Mac to play games.
Just do what I do; buy an Apple laptop and a Windows desktop. It's easy to justify this if you have a "significant other".
If I had to buy a laptop again I would buy another mac. I had a G4 for awhile and loved it. I then went to a Toshiba and I hate it. It works good for what I want to do... EXCEPT... battery life sucks. I got excellent battery life from my mac and it was easy and small to carry around.
+1 on mac laptops!

I'm more of a function over form guy.. Mac's just look pretty.. Basically designed for girls and homos..
Not to mention how limited you are with a MAC.. If you want to run windows then you should get something from HP.. They have nice stuff thats way cheaper then MAC..
Do mac's still have only 1 button on the mouse? That would drive me insane..

Dubbs you have apparently never used one... They are far superior if you are into graphic design, and practicality... not to mention that mac's aren't getting all the virus's that windows users are. Like I said before the battery life kicks arse... I used to get close to 3 1/2 hours with my Mac.

O.. I've used quite a few, fixed quite a few and completely disassembled and repaired quite a few.. Come to think of it, Why do they have to bury the hard drives on those laptops???? Every other manufacturer requires 1 screw for the HD.. MAC requires about 20 to be taken out and for the bottom half to come off.. HD's break far too often to do that..
Mac's don't get viruses and spyware because what retard is going to waste their time affecting 3% of computer users?
Edit - I never have problems with spyware or viruses.. It really depends on how smart of a user you are.. Not what kind of operating system you have.

Eh, on the viruses it depends on what you do with them. I game a lot, I seem to pick up viruses from gaming networks... plus i'm on a school network down here which is notorious for the entos.exe virus... If you know what sites you can visit and which sites not to vist you won't have any problems... hell i don't have any problems with my laptop and i'm using INTERNET EXPLORER without any virus software... as you know a general rule of thumb is to not use IE... anyway
Mac does bury the harddrive... they do seem to have a decent amount of harddrive failures as well..

The hardware for both PC and Mac is so similar that, really, the only thing that separates them from each other is software. There are a few things hardware-wise that Mac has PC beat...
--Slot loading drives.
--Smooth rear and ports. Macs don't catch on clothing or bags.
--Magnetic power cord.
Software-wise the Mac has a few nice things.
--Easier navigation.
--Very fast toolbar search.
--Extremely fast wake up from standby mode.
...and some very bad things...
--the Dock is so much harder to use than the Windows taskbar.
--preferences for each folder was made by a sadist.
Just because you don't know if you have a virus/worm doesn't mean you don't have one.
Don't listen to all these fools giving you uneducated advice. Its clear they know nothing about current hardware/software platforms.
I've got three college degrees in network systems, info tech, and in education from U. of MO, plus I work in the IT industry as a .NET and a DB programmer. I'm married to a doctor who has five degrees.
My question is, how many degrees you got little man?
