I keep 15 gigs for C: strictly for the OS and desktop crap, 105 gigs for D: in case my OS gets fucked by some virus or when I eventually go back to Vista in about ooohhhh, whenever they make it worth it.

i take it you are still with win xp?

i just installed vista home premium (got it free w/ new laptop purchase or else i wouldn't have got vista). the requirement for hard drive space is 40GB, so i put 40 GB on the c drive and set three partitions for storage.

just wanted to get a feel for what setup other users have.

thanks prod.

i have a C:, and a hidden clone of C: as well. then i just partition off the rest to suit my need.

the clone drive is essentiallyh a backup in case i get a ruthless virus, in which case i just copy the clone to C; and viola.....new OS.

i use a program called ranish....its a DOS based partitioner that enables multiboot systems. you need to be able to boot off a floppy...

check google...thats how i found it.

i can write ya up some quick instructions once i get home if ya wanna go this route. i can say that ive easily saved months of windows install time using this method.

backup everything on your hard drive somewhere else. by doing this method, you need to completely wipe the harddrive and start over. obviously, you'll need all your driver and windows installation disks. i learned th ehard way to prepare well when you execute a c:\format

i should have something written up later. i'll shoot ya a PM when im done.
