I just got comcast cable internet. The cable runs to the modem, and a wireless router is hooked up to the modem. I can see the network on my computer, and I'm wondering how I can secure the broadcast so my neighbors can't bogart my signal.
Any suggestions?

your router should have an option to enable wireless security. all you have to do is enable it and follow the intructions on how to do so WEP is probably what you will wanna use you also have to set it up on any computer you want to use the wireless. If you go to the manufactures web site they should have a full set of instructions there

open up a new browser window and type in 192.168.1.1 (the router's ip addy) and you will access the user interface for the router.
if you're prompted for a username/password, i believe the standard is admin/password or admin/admin not sure.
you can set up your WEP that way.

Turn on WPA or WPA2.
Turn on MAC address filtering, and add your own computers to the permit list.
Change the default SSID (network name), and turn off SSID advertising.

That's better than 99% of what's out there.

You can also change the default IPs (on the router, DHCP pool). In the past I have issues with SSID broadcasting turned off and pdas not being able to connect, but with just PCs/laptops you should be ok.

Change the router password. Also, enable MAC address filtering. Or you can have pre-assigned IP addresses to your devices on the network (e.g. 192.168.0.2 = laptop, and 192.168.0.3 = desktop).
