You can move the music but the music player is OS dependent. It will not work without a operating system.
To copy the music just select the folder with the music right click it select copy and open the drive you want to move it to and right click it and select paste. It will copy it to the other drive. This is assuming that you have both drives in your computer.
your player will need to be reinstalled on the new drive... you will NOT be able to transfer the media player. the media itself is rather easy to move.
formating is simple in windows xp follow these simple steps
control panel>admin tools> computer management.
under storage in left pane click disk management.
right click on drive to be formated and click format. format into ntfs formating if givin the option.
when formating is complete the new drive will show up in your my computer under the drive letter you assgiened to it.
to move media, you just drag and drop from one drive to another.
most music unless you palced somewhere diffrent should be in the my documents> my music folder

so when i drag the media player to the new drive will it promp me to reinstall it?
no you will need to reinstall from the installation package. wether that is from a cd or download. that being said. you are not gonna save much if any room on the hard drive moving that software. i would leave the player installed and in its current location, and just move your music files to the new drive.
ok i see your point. so moving just the music files to the other hard drive will free up the space on the current drive the player is on?, question is that the music is stored on the media player, not in a outside file or shared folder. so will this still apply?
open up your media player..whatever it might be and look through the settings and find out where all your music/video's are being stored. if you're using windows media player and you didn't change where they get downloaded to then it's most likely stored at C:\Documents and Settings\(Your login name)\My Documents\My Music

We will miss you.
they are only nicely layedout in your media player. the music phsicly lives on your computer. if you bought them through itunes they are in the itunes folder in your my music folder. that is the folder that you will need to move.

Your music should be in My Music. Hopefully you don't have "protect all my music" enabled in media player options... make sure you have that turned off if you use windows media player or it will ruin all your music and make it unplayable if you transfer it to another comp or drive.
The media player saves a playlist which tells it where the music is so if you move the actual files the playlist will have the wrong directions to the files and windows wont find it.
