Surround sound wiring
Okay guys, i know we have a few A/V nuts on here like me. I need your input on where you think my 6.1 setup should go.
I hope this is easy to understand, obviously i can't the whole room in the shot.
The first is the front where the front speakers and center are. Until I can get a stand this is where i'm putting the subwoofer but where would you all recommend placing it?
The next shot is from the left, i'm thinking of putting the left speaker on top of the computer desk, or maybe a stand just to the right of the desk. Another place I was looking at was up in the corner by the window. good idea ornot?
The right speaker i was going to put on a stand and face towards the couch
The center is going to be a little tricky as i don't have a solid wall behind my couch, it opens into the kitchen, however there is a rather convient flat surface that faced directly towards the TV, i dont' know if this was designed like this or not but figured it would be a good spot for the rear center, maybe angle it down a bit?
you got a wireless center channel or are you gonna run wires through the wall?
honestly i think its going to be up too high to notice its really there
sweet lookin floor by the way
edit: just read that you were thinking about angling the center channel down a bit.....maybe you could just mount it with the bottom on the wall..
bah..i keep editing this after i look at the pics......
might want to think about putting some sort of a small stand next to the computer desk to keep the left surround speaker at the same level as the right surround

Well the house is actually pre-wired for 5.1 surround but the TV has to be facing another way and the wires are run from the roof, but my rear surrounds I think are too big and heavy to hang from there.
I had actually thought about getting the stand next to the computer desk, for like you said to keep it the same level.
I may end up just running it in 5.1 because the center rear isn't going to work well. It's not wireless so it would be a bitch to run wire to it.

Rasc, can you put a shelf on the wall above the TV or put it under it aimed up slightly. Ideally the center should sound as if it's coming from center screen and mid to high frequencys are directional so pointing at ear level is what you want to achieve.
The sub could be in the corner behind the TV... (out of sight) and use that corner to your advantage. It's a natural amplifier, low frequencies are omni directional meaning your ear cannot tell where it's coming from so position isn't important.

Yer right. That might be a problem unless he can go into the studs in the ceiling, seeing that it's a rental thats out of the Q...
or put it on a small bookstand right behind the couch at head level... be spooky as hell watching a scary movie... keep turning around to make sure no ones behind ya That still happens to me from time to time where I just have to look back with that WTF look
hmm....idea just popped into my head.......i know a lot of people put tables behind their sofa and have pictures and stuff on it...you could always do that and also put the speaker there....just turn down the volume to that one speaker

i had that setup at my previous house. My sofa was right up against the wall and the sixth speaker was a foot from your ear, i had to put the distance in - negative value to get it going good.
KH - I already have the center channel right under the TV, best place I can, i had it on the lower shelf and was missing out alot with the coffee table there.
Eventually we'll get a sofa table but concern is running the wires to it, since I have hardwood floors it's going to be difficult. And these speakers aren't the little BOSE surround, they're pretty big.
I do have the rear channel of the system i don't have up yet. I've been running it in 5.1 and it sounds decent, i'm looking for that molding that you use can use to hide wire. Anyone know what it's called and where to get it?
