Spyware and/or Viruses on Linux?
I recently installed Ubuntu on my second drive on my laptop (beats the crap out of XP btw), and was wondering if I would have to worry about Spyware and/or Viruses for it? I've heard different things on it, just wondering if any of you guys could give me some insight.
Only reason I still got XP running on my other drive is because I need el photoshop. Bleh.
Edit:
Oh and anyone know why I can't run anything higher than 1024x768? I'm running a 256MB NVidia GeForce Go 7800 GTX, and I know for a fact that it can support higher resolutions.

It depends on who you talk to, about spyware and viruses, I would say you do have to worry about viruses, but spyware not so much. Just use clamav for your anti-virus and keep it updated, and you'll be fine.
For the resolution problem, you may have to specifically put in the refresh rate in the config file. What version of Ubuntu are you using because there was a bug that has since been fixed. Read the link below maybe it will help you out. I don't use Ubuntu, but I know in other distros you have to manually set the horizontal and vertical sync rates for it to work properly.
Download the linux drivers from Nvidia. It's a shell script that will update your drivers and config file. Read the README file on their site. Also take a look at the Gnu Image Manipulation Program aka The Gimp, if you'd like to try some of your photo and graphic editing under Linux.

It's less a risk with a Linux distro then XP. Most viruses try to exploit weaknesses within the Windows NT kernell and specifically target directory conventions associated with Windows (e.g. \windows\system32)

As long as you're willing to install software from untrusted sources, and click on "Ok" when it asks if you want to install, you're vulnerable to malware. Doesn't matter what OS it is, it dependent on you to make good decisions.
