Mmmm, Cable. It varies from one system to another. I had Verizon DSL before I got cable and was able to use the router straight out of the box. (back then I didn't know a thing about setting it up tho

)
Now I setup each PC with fixed IP's and turn DHCP off it's much more reliable that way since the IP's never change.
I have a server running and several file sharing proggys that need specific ports forwarded to the various machines, it can be a pain in the ass after a restart without manually setting them up. There's 4 PC's in here on 24/7
