Web development

I've been out of the loop for about 1 and a half years now. and I haven't really wrote hardly any code in over a year. I got burned out in the first 2 years college. Looking to get back into web development as a hobby, just personal sites, etc. Friend suggested I learn AJAX and maybe ASP or PHP to go with it. I never learned DHTML or anything like that, most of my stuff was written in C or its variants, I never did web oriented programming. What should I look into? Books?

If you've worked with C then I'd consider looking into C# for web application development. Wrox usually puts together some great books. Maybe check this one out:
