Has anybody ever had any problems running Norton Internnet Security? I just got back from vacation and couldn't access the internet on my computer. I called my internet provider help line, they helped me do a couple things and said it seemed like the firewall wasn't letting any web pages load. My computer was sending out the requests for the pages, but the pages couldn't make it back through my firewall. Anybody help me with why this is happening?
Basically I have to start my computer without that Norton Internet Security running and then leave it off to be able to get on the internet. Just curious if anyone has run into this in the past. My next step will probably be to contact Norton.

I've had problems in the past where certain pages wouldn't load with Norton running... get rid of the shit software and get a free firewall. Less resources taken up, and less headaches!
I did notice that it uses a bunch of resources like you guys are saying. It has seemed to be a bigger pain in the ass than what it's worth. Thanks guys.

Each year, Norton's consumer products become more of a drain on the system.
Honestly, i'd just use the WinXP firewall and a good anti-virus. Symantec's Corporate AV is my choice, but TrendMicro's products aren't too shabby at all...and they also have a software firewall.
Granted, I'm a bit skewed...i run an enterprise-class firewall on my home network ;-)
Get AVG for a virus scanner, a free or cheap firewall works too.

Hey Justin, by not loading pages do you mean you type something at your address bar on IE but nothing happens?
If this is what is happening I have the fix.
Yeah, basically that's what is happening I guess. Usually I don't type something directly into the address bar. I usually just select it from My Favorties list, it pops the address into the bar, but then after that at the bottom left corner it says "website found, waiting for reply" (or something real similar?) and then the screen just stays white, just like it does for the split second between loading pages usually. Then it just sits there and nothing happens. Is this what you have a fix for?

Norton Internet Security is GREAT! On IRC, if you type "StartKeyLogger" anywhere in your phrase, NIS will "detect" a trojan and shut down the interface that the phrase came through. Let me again express my love of Norton. It rids IRC of a lot of noobs...

Sorry for the lag.
If you have recently uploaded a MS security patch it will cause some weird shite to happen. Something about the patch not liking to work with HP drivers. So if you use any HP equip on your PC, this may be the issue.
1. Log on to the computer by using an account that has administrative credentials.
2. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
3. Locate and then right-click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell Extensions\Cached
4. Point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
5. For Microsoft Windows 2000-based computers, type the following:
{A4DF5659-0801-4A60-9607-1C48695EFDA9} {000214E6-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}
For Microsoft Windows XP-based or Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computers, type the following:
{A4DF5659-0801-4A60-9607-1C48695EFDA9} {000214E6-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} 0x401
6. Right-click the value that you just created, and then set the Value data to 1.
7. Exit Registry Editor.
8. Use Task Manager to close the Verclsid.exe program or to restart the computer.
