Gaming mobiles are lame.

Don't game if you have a mobile. Wanna game? Get a tower.

Alienware is as piss poor as Dell is as far as support goes. I know a couple guys with Alienware towers who do nothing but piss and moan about them not being as good as selfie builds.

Mikem's right, don't game on a mobile. I recently bought a Toshiba, last years model too and although it does alright with lightweight games it's easily taxed to the point of unplayability. My desktop otoh can game all day long and not break a sweat.

Some of the desktop replacement laptops aren't too shabby for gaming. Hell, even my D600 plays WoW all right.

Pretty much every gaming shop will have a laptop: VoodooPC, FalconNW, etc. Dell's XPS series laptops would fit the bill.

WoW is a lightweight game. Give Guild Wars a shot, Doom 3, Quake 4, FEAR, HL2, HL1, Galatic Civilizations 2, etc, etc, etc.

My computer is a Toshiba Satallite A105-S101. Celery 1.6, 512 megs of ram, ATI Xpress 200 chipset/video. What I didn't know about your's is it's packing a P4. Mine will also play WoW all night but takes a shit with Guild Wars.

It's moments like this that make me glad that I build all my own computers. I hate dealing with tech support, especially the ones with such thick accents that I can hardly understand them. Extended warranty is just their way of sucking more cash from your wallet. Furthermore, these companies use sub-standard parts to keep their cost low.

I build all my own too (minus laptops), but it still sucks when a part goes down and its up to you to front the costs....especially when its say, a motherboard crashing with errors that tend to indicate video card.

One of my goals while I was in Iraq was to come home and build my own tower since I had a TON of time before I had to come back to working for The Man. I regret not doing it...

Dell Latitudes and IBM/Lenovo T/X Series Thinkpads are the only laptops I will recommend for continuous carry and heavy use. Period.

Also keep in mind that if you buy a dell through your university, you get to use the Higher Education tech guys, not the general home user ones. Great .edu discounts too.

I bought a Dell Inspiron last year and had no problems until a few weeks ago . . . right after my warranty expired (go figure). I talked to a CSR and told him the prob but since the warranty had expired he gave me a different number to call for help. Hadn't done it yet with work being busy lately. Maybe someone here can help.

My Inspiron 6000 won't power on. Problem started a few weeks ago when it would randomly shut off in the middle of using it. I would have to wait a few seconds then turn it back on and it would work for a little bit more before shutting off again. Problem persisted for a couple weeks and now it won't even turn on when I press the power button. I see the power indicator light flash once then go dim. Press the power button again and it does the same: indictor light flashes once then dims and notebook never turns on.

The green light on the adapter comes on so I know it works. I tried using my co-workers Dell power adapter to see if it was my adapter but still didn't power on. I think the reason that the laptop stayed on earlier was that it was running off the batteries, even when I had the adapter plugged in, and now the battery is drained so it won't power on at all. I'm thinking there is a connection problem between my notebook and the power adapter.

Any help or suggestions? I already tried powering up with battery in, with battery out, without adapter, with adapter. No go.

If you've got nothing to lose google and see if you can find a good tutorial how to take it apart. I found one for my Toshiba and once it's out of warranty I might pop a P4 mobile in it for shits and giggles.

With other less expensive warranties...you get what you pay for.

To whoever said he should have bought an Alienware....you're sadly delusional. First off, Dell just BOUGHT Alienware, so it wouldn't do much good anymore. Second, they're overpriced....crazy so. There's plenty of better options...but Dell's still going to be the best bet for most consumers.
Agreed. I dont like Dell's outsourced support either but they just became like any of the other tech giants that want to save a buck. Their support merely became as crappy as their competition's.

Regarding your warranty- You should have bought the one that allowed for a tech to be dispatched in order to replace the parts for you.

Data recovery? Sure- You wouldnt have had to worry about that if you did regular back ups.

Dell's phone support sucks ballz to be sure, but dont blame them because you bought the wrong warranty.

I've had good luck with my dell. The customer service is pretty weak, as all of you have said. I had some guy ask me for my address 7 times. After that i started messing w/him. Saying that i don't live in Connecticut, i live in CT! That threw him for a loop. I started going into civil war history and how those bastard Northerners are a bunch of racists. I don't think he got it.
