My friends? I have no problems helping with computer problems when I can. If I can't help them I give them the numbers for people that can. A person could make a bundle setting outside of some of these places giving advice
You make a good point and thats what I thought back when I first decided to go out on my own (Making a bundle as you put it) but it just isnt worth it dealing with residential. Sooner or later they become bloody irritating.

The most irritating client after the one with the triplets was this @$$hole and his wife who live in the high-rise my parents just moved out of. This guy was on the condo board and every meeting went on for at least an hour longer than it needed to becuase he loved nothing more than the sound of his own voice. The more he talked the more he got his nut. His wife felt like she was entitled to be treated like royalty. Whenever she had a carload of groceries, she would sit out in front of the building leaning on her horn expecting the door staff to come out and unload for her. When they wouldnt (Every time) she would storm in and literally throw the bags across the floor towards their desk. I wouldnt come out either-Thats bloody rude.

Now you can only imagine what that kind of crap translated into for me. This jagoff would live to ask me a question and without having a single clue to the right answer, he pretty much made up his own. Since my answer obviously didnt mesh with his that gave him his chance to talk down to me as if he was superior.

The wife would try to get me to move furniture for her.

The last time I dealt with them was when he asked me a question and I refused to answer him. He got pissed and I responded: "I'm not going to answer anymore of your questions, because you already have your answer in mind. Since you are singularly clueless, my answer while being right doesnt match yours and that gives you the chance to act like a know-it-all asshole, of which I have heard from mahy people that you do the same to them. So, no- I wont be answering any more of your questions. Lose my phone number, please."

In the next condo board elections, he came in dead last.

I have only had one business client get that way so far. It makes things so much easier limiting my clientele like I do.

Yea, I get those too. The neighbor bought a new laptop because the old one was so slow. I checked it out and they were almost identical (the new one had more video memory).

Since I wanted a test laptop for the business, I bought the old one off of him. Works great for me.

I talked to him a couple of weeks later. His new laptop was very slow for some reason. He took it to Worst Buy to replace it with a "better" one. They actually talked him out of it.

He finally took my advise and went from dial-up to DSL. His laptop is lots faster now

I actuallly worked for the Geek Squad for a week, as a part time gig.

To give you all a background, I am a SAN architect, who works with UNIX, LINUX, Windoze, OSX and other OS. I deploy millions of dollars of hardware a week. I am responsible for disaster recovery for Fortune 50 companies.

And I had a kid asking me to run a disk base diagnostic all day.

Actually, I think it was 3 days, when I left.

Oh yea They paid $1500 for the new laptop. I bought his old one for $250. They only use it to surf the web and watch movies while on trips. I use the one I bought along with various tools to hack their wireless connection (with his permission of course). I also hack their wireless connection with my Powerbook. It's fun to practice
