Ok, so I have this modem from Mediacom, and no router.
Today, I just picked up a router from my sisters, NO wireless card though. So I plug the router in and i plug the modem in.
They both have power.
Im using ethernet cables to try to provide internet to a laptop (without a wireless card) and to a PC.
For some reason, if the router is turned off than the PC can connect using the modem.
Usually, I could just connect the wireless router and be able to connect an ethernet cable to the laptop, but for some reason I can't connect the laptop. It keeps saying "limited or no connectivity". Im using the ethernet to connect the laptop to the router yet its still not working.
any one know a solution? thanks
Could it be that I am using a router that is not from mediacom?

It shouldnt matter what brand it is. Make sure you plug the modem into the WAN port on the router, and the laptop into one of the other ports.
if you're getting limited or no connectivity, it means the DHCP on the router may not be working. if you have it set up like this and it's not working, let us know...
Ok, i had some more time- so some more stuff to check. When you hook up the cable modem to the router, you need to turn it off and back on. Actually, when you connect it to anything new you need to do that.
On the laptop, go to Control Panel/network connections/local area connections- right click, go to properties. Then go to TCP/IP on the list, click properties. Then make sure both check boxes are at auto configure.
What brand is the router? You may need to reset the DHCP service on it. See if there's a reset button that you can press....
You DIDNT hear this from me..... but the best way i've found.... awwww man- let me see if i can remember the names....
use DVD Decrypter to rip the DVD's to the hard drive, and then use DVD shrink to burn it. You can get decrypter from www.Doom9.org, along with many nice tutorials. DVD shrink is an open source program, i think you can get it from sourceforge, but just google it. It lets you resize dual layer discs to burn on single layer, as well as omit some sound tracks (directors commentary, french) and menus to make sure it'll fit as well.
Glad to hear you fixed the problem.
Hey man- what color is your F3, and do you have pics?
lol. That exactly what I use. DVDClone is good but I think u can only get a trial version whereas Decrypter and Shrink are 4 Life Bro! Perfect for ripping those damn copyrighted games and movies...that is if ur into that kindof illegal activity.
Its gonna rip an audio_ts and video_ts file to ur harddrive and ull just use those to burn to disc. U might need Nero or some kind of DVD burning software though.
I have it. Havent used it, though. A good all in one program is dvdxcopy. About the simpliest you can get. You put the old one in, a blank disc, and hit GO.
They stopped selling it BECAUSE it was so easy, though.... but i...uh.... *MAY* have a copy of it sitting around on my computer.... PM me if you want details... i feel uncomfortable hotlinking it in a post- imagine that.
You should just be able to use nero to burn the VOB files once they're all ripped, though. I just checked startsmart, and it looks like it wont do copywrited stuff...
And travis- i find it funny that i run into you on here almost every night.... i guess us hoosiers never sleep, huh?
