I called Dell and they told me that I would have to send it back for the new burner. It wasn't worth it because it was my work computer and I could give it up. If they would have sent it to me I could have replaced in under an hour.

It's funny though that just earlier this week I ordered a HDD and new mouse pad for an older Dell and my Dell rep said nothing about them not being user replaceable. I expected them to say something about the mouse pad since you have to completely disassemble the laptop to replace it.

Did I mention that I love my Dell Latitude D610



That's kind of funny because when the smokin' hottie from above called Dell right before calling me, the first thing they told her to do is remove the HDD.

Dell is kind of ass backwards on some things! After an hour long wait on the phone you get someone that can barely speak English reading directions from a menu tree. I love my Dell computers but their customer service sucks! Depending on who you get on the other end of the line you might get a few different stories on how to fix the problem.

All of the machines that we have here are mostly IBM ThinkPads. Unfortunately they have Hitachi disks that break easily. Very easily.
