Question Power Commander and slip on question

If I get a slip on for my 600, is it necessary to get a power commander? I don't have a dyno anywhere in my area that I know of. I've also read that if I were to get a power commander, its much better to get it custom tuned rather than downloading maps off their website. So will it hurt anything if I run a slip on w/o a power commander? Will using a slip on with no power commander make me loose performance compared to the stock exhaust with no power commander?

You're fine without a PCIII with your slip-on.

PC's are more use with a full system...A slip on will be fine without one...

Is there any benefit to getting a power commander if you only have a slip-on?

Yes, absolutely. A PC is a 'jet kit' for fuel injected bikes. Bikes run lean from the factory even with stock exhaust. Adding a slip-on will usually allow the engine to run more lean, to some extent. Adding a full exhuast usually requires tuning from a PC, or similar device.

All bikes can benefit from proper tuning with a PC. Is it worth the cost on a stock bike? Probably not. On a bike with a slip-on? Maybe, one of mine is. Full exhaust? Yes.

Ok, I've been thinking about getting one, but wanted to make sure I wouldn't just be throwing money at it for no reason.

I'll see what else I can sell to pay for one. I'm already selling two of my jackets to pay for my next track day.

The only reason I even asked about a PC in the first place is because I've heard that loud pops tend to occur on deceleration because the lack of a PC and I want to avoid these pops, but if its ok not to use one on a slip on like you said, then that is good enough for me.

The pops or backfiring is indirectly caused from the lack of a PC. It is really caused by running lean. This means that your air/fuel mixture in your bike is not right. You might get some backfiring from an aftermarket exhaust because it is much more freeflowing than a stock one. If you are really concerned about it. Look at your spark plug after you put the pipe on. If it is white. You need a PC. But you should be fine.
