Question for you Ducatistas
I'm strongly considering the new 1098. I've had no experience with Ducati as I've always had Japanese bikes. My question is: What does routine maintenance cost? I see on the Ducati website that there are service intervals at 600, 7,500, 15,000 etc for valve adjustment, etc. I'm used to running a bike up to 50K miles with only routine maintenance and never needed any major/costly service. Should I be prepared to pay $500 - $1,000 every 7,500 miles? I hear horror stories of the cost, but that could just be an "urban legend". Any knowledgeable input will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

The routine maintenance is somewhat costly compared to other bikes. But once you own one, you won't mind spending a bit more.
I would do a little research on parts also. You might be a bit surprised on how expensive they can really get.
You are on the right track doing a little bit of research, and talking to those who own a Ducati. Your best bet for info in my opinion would be Ducati.ms

No. Hubby has one and it's no different. Like most company's, they go by cc. If they don't go by cc's then I think I've heard the opposite - they are more expensive.

Lets get ahold on the myths here.
First check on the valves is the 6k service, then its 12k. A full service on the 4v is in the neighborhood of $800. Thats Belts, Valves, Oil Change, Checking and resetting TPS,throttle, bodies, ect. Thats the 12k Service getting all that.

Yes the maintance is really high on them. Just because there is more to check then on a Jap bike. Dcukman851 is right on the 6000 mile and the 12000 mile services. The nice thing is the bike reminds you with a service light that comes on. I personally am jsut not looking forward to the 6k mile service that I have to do here soon.

The money spent on maintenance is offset by the money not lost by trading it in every other year b/c it looks dated...

749 or 999 - at least it's still a Ducati, not somehing else.

You know, I like the 749/999 series Superbikes, but in the looks category, the 916 series and now 1098 make them look horrible. Really the only problem I have with them is the front, mainly the headlights. I love the tail section, and the main fairings aren't too bad either, I'm suprised no company came out with an upper with 916 style headlights for the 999.
How much did you pay for that 749 Dark? $11-$12k? I would seriously feel sick to my stomach if I bought that bike and the next year they came out with the 1098 for $15k.
Don't get me wrong, you still have a great bike, although I've never ridden a 749 (only the 999), I've heard they are quite good for the money.
