Default Differences in the 749 Models?

if you caught my thread in the "new riders" forum, you'll see that i'm trying to get back into riding; i plan on getting a 749 after taking MSF again and getting a ninja for a few months to get reacquainted with riding [i havent ridden in 2 years, but i have about a year of riding experience under me including 3 months on a gpr50, 6 on a blast, and 3 on a hawk GT].

anyway, I just wanted to know hte fundamental differences between the different 749 Models, aside from price. I _really_ like the dark, because of its attractive price and it looks hte same as the others. So what are the differences between the Dark/749/R/S ?

Cool Differences.....

Where to begin....First, I own a dark and love it. No difference between the dark and the standard 749. Just paint. Both make 108 hp, 60 lb-ft. of torque. Showa front suspension Sachs rear. 749s showa front and rear suspension and the engine is retuned with a few more ponies. 116 hp, 61 lb-ft of torque. 749r gets ohlins goodies front and back and makes 150 hp and 86 lb-ft. of torque. Also different gearing on the sprockets on the R. Regular 749, S, and R get body matched colorings on the frame rails, while the dark has satin colored frame.

Hope that helped............(749d....too cool for school....)

Actually the 999R makes 150hp.. the 749R makes 118hp.

Does power REALLY matter that much? To some, yes, but a few ponies cant actually be the decisive factor in whether or not you get a 749 or a 749S/R...

The power does make a difirence to some people. I sold my 05 749 and bought a 06 999 because of the power. The bike is great and is the same bike just a bigger motor. I sould have just put the 999 engine kit in my 749 and save some money but I wanted red too. You can't go wrong with the 749 but try to ride one first. The only real problem is the heat comming off the motor on the left side during the summer time at a light. They get REALLY hot on the inner part of your leg. I had a 05 636 that was really nice but the Ducati was a MUCH better bike as far as feel and over coolness. (if thats a word). Once you ride a Duc you wont ride anything else in MY OPNION.Good luck in your surch. PS go to www.ducatimonster.org for any other ducati questions.
