Lightbulb Super Hawk Valve Noise

My Son has a '98 Super Hawk with 11k miles. It seems to have developed some valve noise on the rear cylinder. Took it to the dealer that he purchased it from and they say that is normal. Took it to a wrench friend and he says that it has too much noise.

Anyone have any experience with this type of situation? Any comments?

TIA

Haven't had a need to do one so I'm no help there, but 11K miles seems low to need a valve adjustment. They all make some noise, so it's hard to be sure without hearing it. If a dealer said not to worry, I'd go with what he said. Also, make sure there is no exhaust leaks, they sometimes sound like ticking valves.

I agree, overhead cam 4 valve twins are noisy, hard to tell without hearing, but if the dealer said it was ok I'd believe them, they are more likely to say it needs an adjustment, because thats what they are in business for, what brings home the bacon for them.

3 WORDS: CAM CHAIN TENSIONER. These are notorious on the Hawk. Get is checked asap.

Isn't the pink dot tensioner the upgraded one? I can't remember.

I did the same thing with my 20k mile VTR. Sounded like there was a lot of valvetrain noise, took it to the dealer, mechanic listened and said it sounded normal.
