What yea say? Superhawk good/bad bike?
I'm looking to buy a 1998 Superhawk and was hoping to get some feedback as to what kind of problems they have, how expensive they are to maintain and in general are they good bikes?
to others not into superhawks do you like the look? I obviously do but just curious as to what others think.

No real problems. Some have had cam chain tensioner problems, but they seem sporadic, and well, you only hear of the bad cases and not the cases where nothing ever happens. Some bikes have had voltage regulator/rectifier problems, but again, you only hear of the bad. A lot of poeple complain of poor fuel milage too.
In my opinion the fuel milage is normal, although it does have a smaller tank capacity. I generally get 42 mpg, and get 140+ miles per tank, before the low fuel light comes on. I recently replaced my regulator/rectifier at 25,000 miles. The bike has had no significant service done, and caused no significant problems.
It may not be the newest, fastest, best looking bike, but it is one hell of a good street bike. It handles good, has plenty of low-mid range power, and is all day comfortable. I love em!

Great bikes, I love mine, most people that have owened them and sold them tend to come back to them in the future...check out the superhawkforum.com lots of good stuff, and tons of hawk owners...
I love the low end on these bad boys, I put on a 43 tooth rear sproket and wow, lots more low end, course top speed fell off a bit...

I picked up a 98 super hawk, and the next day ended up pushing it home a few blocks, in the rain of course. i found the regulator smoking and i kept blowing 30 amp fuses in the startor relay? i think thats what it is,(the first black box connected to the battery). Just wondering how to test that part before hooking up a new $120(ebay) regulator.

THe VTR1000F is a great bike.
Comfortable, powerful, forgiving....I miss mine !
P.S. Is the battery is over 3 years old?
If so, I'd replace it if it were mine...just as preventive maintainence
