Default First powerups on CBR.

I'm by no means a stunter, but feel comfortable enough on my bike to start throwing it around more so thought I would try a power up wheelie on my CBR. First, I've done little clutch wheelies off the line, but I don't like the idea of thrashing my clutch and tranny so much, and this bike has such smooth throttle control it just seems easier on this bike.

Anyway, rolling in first gear about 5K...off throttle and then right back on on with about 2x to 3x the original throttle gets the front up about a foot or more. I keep my arms loose enough to let bike come up to me, and grip is not tight so the bike shift doesn't nudge the throttle any more than I want. I've not gone much past that and don't know if I will, but it feels good to be able to ride it out a ways with revs coming up - now I know I can do that exiting a turn on the track and not worry so much.

Great to hear, i think alot of us started to get the wheelie itch just powering it up on accident. Sounds like your starting off pretty good, just make sure that you wear your gear, and always go with another person. If you want to ride it out a little more without running out of revs, try clutching it up, but just don't hammer down on her, because she'll buck ya off. Start small and work up.
Good luck to ya

I am not sure why everyone knocks pow pow wheelies. I learned to do wheelies in first gear all motor ups. I have seen many more people learning clutch ups in first loop their bike. Actually I have never seen anyone do a pow pow and loop. I think it is good to begin to feel the wheel come off the ground. As you become more comfortable with the wheel coming off the ground then you learn the clutch ups.

Just a quick question. I seem to be tilting to the right or left when I put one up. Could that be because of tire pressure, or something else?

thx everyone for the suggestions - clutching up maybe someday, but not feeling ready for that. Yes, I always wear FULL gear (boots, full leathers, the works.)

On why the wheelie would go sideways (mines r str8)...how's your rear wheel alignment affect that?

wheel alignment wouldn't be my first guess, but it could be a possibility. the number one cause is body position/alignment.

You know it's a medical fact that, on humans, one genitalia is bigger than the other. That could throw off your balance hampering your wheelies, you know

Alright, I'll shut up... must've had too much to drink...

Your theory has just explained why I have more trouble getting the bike up than most.
