Will clutching up wheelies ruin your trans?
About 4K miles ago I was clutching up a wheelie in second gear at about 25-30 mph. It kicked out of gear and starting making a clattering noise anytime it was in gear. Took it back to the dealer, they replaced all shift forks and 4 gears.
After I got it back I could occassionally hear a noise in first gear.
Well, today I was clutching it up in second, it kicked out of gear, front end came down, it went back into gear all on it's own and now the tranny is making some very serious noise (like there are a bunch of marbles in there). 2nd and 3rd gear seem to be the worst.
I have friends that wheelie the sh!t out of their bikes and have never had a problem like this, can't say if they power it up or not.
Should I assume that it's clutching it up that is smoking my transmissions or was a transmission issue from the get go that never got properly fixed?

I've clutched miles on end on different bikes and have never had a problem with the tranny. I dont think you're problem is related to clutching. Every now and then you get a bike that just has tranny problems. Some people think its because it came out the crate that way or it was broken in improperly or the person is terrible at shifting gears and is killing their gear box. Whichever you wanna go with really doesnt matter because I highly doubt that clutching has anything to do with it. However, it probably isn't a coincidence that it usuallyt happens when half your bike is in the air. When your bike comes up this could cause your bike to slip out of gear and like u said when it came down it could have knocked itself back in gear. Im not a certified mechanic or anything so take this with a grain of salt but I have been clutching for years and the only potential problem that it can cause is that your clutches wear faster than normal or you may have to adjust them more than normal. But when done properly clutching doesn't really add any extra strain on your bike.

shifting during a wheelie is a waste of time, and will ruin your bike when you miss shift. I'v been stunting hondas for years, dont shift during wheelies, and have never wrecked a tranny.
If you learn brake control then you wont need to worry about breaking your bike

Who said anything about shifting during a wheelie I think ZX was referring to missing shifts in general, which can cause tranny problems. 2nd gear is notorious for this as it is a longer shift so to speak.

my bad, i misread it, when they fixed your tranny they failed to replace shift fork or something. It should also pop out of gear under hard accerlation, no wheelie needed. If its covered I would argue to have them replace the whole tranny or have another dealer do the work since they did such a bad job.

I took it to another dealer. Unreal. The dealer that I bought it at (and bought an extended warranty and maintenance package) said they could look at it in a couple weeks. The next closest dealer said bring it right in, we'll look at it tomorow or the next day at the latest.
