Default Learning: F4i vs 954

currently i have an 01 f4i. the engine is super strong, but the cosmetics are a little shady.

ive always wanted a 954, and am talking to a guy who might wanna trade his '02 for mine.

im in the process of learning clutch stand-ups in 1st. i can consistently get the thing up pretty high, but am just working on riding it out. i think i need to get the wheel up higher at a lower speed....anyway.

im curious to know how big of a difference it would be to learn on a 954 instead of on an f4i?

i think im capable of riding a 954, thats not what im asking. i just wanna know if wheelies would be easier to learn on a 954 than on an f4i.

i dont care if they are necessarily easier, i just dont want them to be harder.....

thanks for any input.

Don't do it!!! You have the best stunt bike there is already and you will definitely learn and progress faster on the F4i. It and the 636 are the preferred bikes of almost all stunters.

It depends on what your goals are and what you want your level of stunting to be.

I learned on a 929 and 954. But after switching to an f4i my skills greatly improved. The liter bikes are less forgiving, twitchy and even though the weight is about the same feel like a bigger and heavy bike to throw around.

If i would have started on an f4i, I think I would be a lot better with the amount of time that I have invested.

But if youre just looking to do freeway and country wheelies and no parking lot stuff then I would switch to the 954. But it really doesn't take much to have it throw you on your ass.

So I guess the big difference is, it will be twitcher, and you will def pick up speed faster on the 954 during a wheelie if you dint bring it up to the right height right away.

yeah thats what i was thinking. i know the f4i is one of the best bikes to stunt with. thats not why i bought it tho.

i figure i can learn on this first, then once i get most of it down i can switch.

i just really want a 954 for all the other aspects of riding. it would just suck to try to learn to wheelie on....

i just think the 954 would be less forgiving than an f4i. am i wrong in assuming this?

you pretty much answered my question as i was typing my last response.

i dont think i'll ever get too crazy about stunting. i just want to be able to do wheelies. nothing too crazy. maybe the eventual stoppie, altho those scare the hell outta me right now.....

Nailed it right on the head. ive rode my buddys 954 and that thing is twitchy and torquey and hell. The front is just itching to come up. Very fun, but very unforgiving.

So whats the deal?? Did you dump it or something? How did you go from a nice looking f3 to a haggard ass f4i?

BTW: I wasn't serious about trading. I'm in luv with my niner

i sold the F2 to buy a truck about 2 years ago cuz i didnt have any vehicle besides the bike.

then i saved some money to get another one.

found the F4i for $2500 on craigslist. it was missing both side fairings, and the kid had done a number on some other cosmetics (very small piece was broken off the corner of the upper fairing, and he had spray painted the entire bike)

so, the bike looks a little.....ehhh....not perfect? but for $2500 for a strong running engine and overall mechanically sound bike, i couldnt go wrong.....

and for that price i could care less about cosmetics, especially if im going to stunt it.
