Performance Loss or Bulky Jacket?
I'm an accomplished dirtbike and cruiser rider but this is my 1st sportbike(2006 CBR 600RR) so I'm not sure how sportbikes perform as miles multiply. Anyway, I followed Break-In guidelines according to the manual and had the initial service done by authorized dealers. After that it was nuffin but haulin butt and tearing corners a new u know what. Did some awesome 123 mph wheelies and tried a few endos.
Back to the performance loss question....
At first i could reach speeds of 173 mph and my bike idled smoothly...Now it doesn't idle so smoothly and topping 169 mph and has only 1k miles on it.
Also i wasn't wearing anything but a helmet and plain clothes till I realized i better get some safety gear . now I'm wearing bulky jackets and gloves that catch the wind, blow up like balloons, and flap...Could that cause my speed to diminish?

lol, for one, congrats on the 123mph wheelies, dident know a cbr could do that!
second, if your tucked and your still catching enough wind to fill up your jacket, id say there a lil WAY to bulky.
a good tight riding jacket is like $200 max, minds not a tight tight one, has some "armor" in it, but i feel safer with it a lil bulky with armor, then skin tight and just some leather tight on me.
try icon, kinda pricy, but fits good, and great stuff.
Robert
ps, its still a new bike, take it to the dealer and have them look it over just incase.

thanx for the reply...i'll take it to the dealer to have it looked at(just hate losing that hour or so of riding time ;) ) but yea, the cbr r can pull the wheelies off. me and my bud always tried to keep our dirtbike's front tires in mint condition so i guess all that practice transfered over to the sportbike real well. oh, by the way i didn't start the wheelie off at 123 mph. i started in 2nd gear(55 mph) and clutchless shifted thru 3rd and 4th and when i finally sat the front down i was doing the 123 mph

two things dude. stop wheelieing at 123 mph, that is pointless. second, stop topping your bike out in a tshirt and jeans. is it really a big deal if you can only go 169, and not 173?

Wait till he finds out what that is once he corrects for speedometer error, it'll be devastating to him.

dang, done got in trouble...gotta try to defend myself a little bit. I don't always do extreme stuff on my bike. Bout 90% of the time i'm only cruisin 60 to 90 mph back and forth to work. But me and my friend are adrenaline junkies and we do push the limit sometimes. I do see the danger in it and like i tell everybody else that worries or clowns on me I truly believe when the Lord calls my name I'm goin wether its on my bike, on a roof workin, or in my bed...but I did buy some safety gear to try to save my hide ;) Hadn't bought my bike to have it checked out yet...so when I bring it up there what kinda of speedometer problems should I check for? everything's stock...

Damn I just got my first bike and its people like you that scare the shit outta me! I push myself but you just straight run with it. Best wishes!
- Im so broke I like to protect myself and my bike. Frame sliders and GOOD riding gear will save me in the end (not to mention insurance).
