My last bike was a 99 ninja 750, those bikes are beasts, I went one tooth down in the front and there was a big difference, however the bike was still just too heavy to do anything other than clutch it up in 1st. Obvioulsy my 02 750 is another machine entirely. I've had the bike a couple weeks now and I haven't ridden in 2 years so I'm takin it slow. Starting out with some power ups and just toying with a few baby stoppies here and there. Because of the weight of my ninja I became much more comfortable doing stoppies than wheelies, as I really had to rev high and drop the clutch to get her up to any respectable height.
Point of this being, I'm thinking of starting by going one tooth down in the front so I can retain my stock chain. I just want to start slow, especially until I get my cage fabricated and on my bike. What has your experinces with different sprockets been?
Can someone give me a quick lesson on pitch? I think I have a 520 stock 17front 42 rear. So I guess to start I want to find a 16tooth for the front and see how that feels.
Thanks for any input you guys who are knowledgeble can offer.
Also on my ninja I was pretty comfortable standing on my seat around 50-60mph on smooth roads and standing till about 20 before it felt too unstable. Well the other day I was getting more comfotable, doing some stoppies and what not, so I held the handle bars and popped up with my feet on the seat ready to let go and stand up slowly like I used to, but the bike felt really unstable compaired to the ninja and i bitched out. I was suprised because my gsxr has a steering damper and the ninja didn't. My only thought ws that the ninja was a lot heavier and the weight was destributed differently making it feel more stable despite having no damper. Any thoughts?

I personally dont mess around with the front sprocket a whole lot. I have tried alot of variations on my 95 zx9r. I tried :
-1 - +8 ( 15 / 50 ) RIPPER WHEELIES Just crack the throttle and Upsee daisie
-2 - +4 ( 14/ 46 ) This was the magic number .. I can roll off at 8 grand in 2nd and ride the crap out of it.
I have found that increasing the sprocket in the rear gives you a torque range that is more stable than lowering the front tooth. Maybe its me but you dont have to rev as high with rear wheel gearing.
Just my two cents
