Second gear?
I really want to start working on my second gear wheelies, any suggestions? When I try it now, i get the bike up to about 50-60mph, and try to clutch it up at like 9000rpms. but when i release the clutch it just kinda dies, I have one tooth down on the front is this not sufficent? Should I rev it higher? HELP

there are diff ways of doing it - the way i do it is
standing:
bounce twice, as legs are thrusting down, full throttle, chop throttle, then full throttle back on and ease the bike into a comfortable position. keep in mind, the bike lands a LOT easier if you hold it up for more than 5 seconds. if u up/down a lot, it's going to land kinda funky each time... just practice up/down a few times and just do a faith throttle where u give it a tad bit more than you want. just please be safe =)
sitting:
other people have different ways of doing this, but what works for me is giving the bike a constant speed... lets say 55. then SLIGHTLY (dont over do this part or u lose RPM's to play with) accellerate. bring clutch in 1/2 inch on slip zone and give throttle a wack - you shouldnt need to full throttle so please dont FT first few times. let the clutch out asap and throttle asap.... the faster u do them both simultaneously, the better the clutch catches - it comes up faster than bouncing though, so be ready to snag it. same thing though.... bring it up fast, chop throttle, then heavy throttle to bring it into position slowly. (i say heavy cause ur now fighting gravity and need a lot of gas.)
the main problem people have with 2nd gear is they're afraid to give it hte throttle it requires and then know when to back off. i like 2nd gear best cause it tends to come up slower and i feel more in control. GL

yea its probably your clutching technique. Like the previous post.. rev it up to 50 or 60 in 2nd and wack the throttle while pulling in clutch about 1/2" (if you clutch is adjusted right) and let it out in a smooth motion as you are gassing it.
should come up.. if not practice it will come.

i have a hydraulic clutch, not much to adjust, but when i do try to clutch it up in second, the engine just says blah, then it just takes off like a rocket, but at first the power just kinda dies off, keep in mind i have a 98 zx7r, it's kinda heavy, and most the weight is towards the front

it's harder, but it will go... if you dont care about curves or comfort, you can have the back in lowered and the front raised. that will get rid of that initial force you have to overcome.

If the motor is bogging down, do you have it jetted correctly? Does it do it when you're riding normally?

i think i do need to investigate and probably adjust the jets, the guy that owned it before put a dyno jet, jet kit in it, but i don't think it is adjusted right, it's like the power isn't worth a damn untill about 8500-9000 rpms, then just hang on tight. so it's probably just out of adjustment. i know you can move the clips and that will help, as too when that jet will kick in, i just don't know which way to move them and how to tell if everything else is ok

I've had 2 zx7r's... just clutch it up in 1st and learn to shift if you need to go a bit faster.
You CAN get it up in 2nd (standup, clutch, and bounce), but your best best is 1st.

well i am ordering my chain and sprockets on friday. I am getting -1 on the front, but can't find +1 on the rear, have only found +2 and it was very expensive compared to the stock gearing, same company, same material, how can two teeth cost so much
