Default 2nd gear. The bounce...?

I'm starting to learn wheelies. I can get 1st gear clutch up to about 2.5 feet(plz don't laugh). I want to try 2nd gear. I've tried clutching it up, but been getting 1" pussy ones. What rpm should I be if I want to do 2nd gear wheelies, and about what speed. My power band start around 7000. Should I ride to about 7000rpm, and the clutch it up? What rpm should I rev up to when I try to clutch it up.

I know about bouncing, but I dont know exactly how to bounce it up. Do I bounce w/ my legs, arms, both? Can I bounce when I'm sitting down?

Thanks.
-Swift, out

Hi swift, i would recommend you learn 1st gear wheelies 1st, and throttle controll. before you try 2nd gear's.. 1st gear is more forgiving... anyway to bounce you stand up on the pegs and jump but dont leave the pegs, you use your arms and legs and body to create the bounce effect.

that's the first post I've ever read where first was more forgiving. From what I understand, first is too 'twitchy' and people like learning it in second better....makes sense to me.

it's more forgiving because if you let off the throttle in first the engine braking will bring down just about any wheelie, no matter how fast or far the front is coming up. It's because it's twitchy that it's more forgiving. Also, if you can learn to ride a wheelie at BP in first you can do it in any gear at any speed.

Bouncing it up is all about timing. You might need a real good one on the older F2. The idea of the bounce is to load the suspension and to take your weight off the front after you push down. A lot of people get it wrong so they are pushing on the handle bars which defeat the purpose of the bounce to begin with.

Take the bike to the power band right around 7000 -8000 or about 55mph. Stay even on the gas and give it a good bounce with your legs only not pushing on the bars at all. It's more of a kind of jump than anything because you want to take all your weight off the bike so it comes up easy. Right at the lowest point kind of push off the pegs to take your weight off and hit the gas. The front should come up. the more gas you give the higher the initial rise. You have to lean back a little and it feels real funny but as with any new trick practice makes perfect. I've seen people do 2 or 3 bounces to get it up but it only takes 1 good one really. Cover the rear break and keep a couple fingers on the clutch in case you get throttle lock. That is where you are holding on instead of really riding it.

At least that's how I do it. I'm sure Snigg will chime in with some more hints.

Ahhh I feel you, I just didn't realize engine braking would kick in enough to make that much of a difference on an I4, I know a Vtwin it would...thanks for the info.
