Stunterz CornerDo you like to ride a bit different from everyone else? Like to see how long you can ride on one tire? Front or back? Well this is the place for you. All Stunt groups are located here now.
Any suggestions, I'm finally getting my 2001 Kat 600 up, but not more than a foot - foot and a half, and I'm clutching it with my left foot on the passengers peg and I'm all the way back, but still just goes up and down, I can't keep it up.
i just watched an instructional video that helped alot. it said to start off small, like you are, 1 foot off the ground, then start getting a little harder on the gas each time, or higher on the revs each time, and work your way up, do a hundred wheelies like that, and eventually your instinct will kick in and you will start doing better wheelies.
can you pop the wheel up without the clutch, just by cutting the gas then kicking it back on hard? basically you are just shifting the weight to the front so when you get back on the gas the weight gets momentum moving back, making it easier to pop it up. add this principle to the clutching method, except rock forward a little bit before clutching it, then lean back to normal position and rip it(gently at first till you get the feeling). make sure you are square on the bike, balanced in the middle, and on good, you dont want to be rocking forward and back trying to pop a wheelie if your not on the bike solid.
Any way you do it, you are at the right end of the spectrum, your problem could be "everytime i try a wheelie i flip my bike"..... so be patient. start small and work your way up.
the video i watched was las vegas extremes wheelies and crossovers, very helpful.

you will get it.
i was at the point of getting 1ft. high wheelies for about a year or two. i remember thinking i was going to flip it when it was only 1ft high, if thats as high as youve gone, it does feel high,...
anyway, like others have said, after a while you get used to getting it up 1ft, then 2ft, and get a little braver each time, and rock the throttle harder and harder until you can finally snap it right up to the balance point, and then back off and modulate the throttle to keep it there. you'll get it, it just takes practice, and your balls will slowly but surely grow. here's your first step towards bigger balls....remember that you probably will NOT flip it.
for now dont try to stand up. dont use the foot on rear peg. that Kat 6 is going to be a little harder then other bikes. powering up that bike may be hard since its low on power and a heavy bike. it will come up with the clutch tho. more revs more clutch
Standup is the easiest way since your feet/legs are better at feeling and maintaining balance than your butt... Not to mention it makes it easier to jump off if you get behind the balance point and can't get it back down.

Agreed, back brake is the best option. However, if you pop it up to fast you might not have time to hit the brake and/or momentum will carry you over.
I'm right about why standing is easiest for balance reasons though, right?
Also, my back brake lever seems to be to high... Even sitting I can't put my foot on it and the peg without pressing it down. Standing may actually be easier until the front wheel comes up, but then it's going to be the same problem. I'll have to check it out.
yes temtn, i would agree that it is easier to balance a stand up for the simple fact that you can see. when you get a sitdown somewhat high you cannot see shit except your tank/controls. you have to look around the bike and its kinda scary until you're used to it.
