A University of Florida walk-on football player was one of two UF students killed in an overnight crash at Old Archer Road and SW 23rd Terrace early Friday, Gainesville Police reported.

Michael Guilford, a walk-on football player was one of two people killed. Michael W. Guilford, 19, and Ashley E. Slonina, 20, died in the wreck, said police spokesman Lt. Keith Kameg. Guilford and Slonina had been riding on a motorcycle when they hit a median at SW 23rd Terrace and Old Archer Road at about 1 a.m.

Guilford, who is from Quincy and attended Blountstown High School, islisted as redshirt freshman with the Gators. His position is defensive back.

Slonina was a junior at UF, said university spokesman Steve Orlando. She was from Lynn Haven.

The motorcycle apparently had been traveling at a high rate of speed, according to preliminary police reports. Guilford and Slonina were not wearing helmets or eye protection Kameg said.

Officers are awaiting autopsy reports on the crash, Kameg said, and were investigating a report that the pair had been at a gathering at a nearby apartment complex prior to the crash
