Oden Out Until March After Knee SurgeryPORTLAND, Ore. -- Greg Oden's rookie season with the Portland Trail Blazers abruptly ended before it began when the 7-footer had knee surgery on Thursday.
The top pick in the June draft went in for an exploratory procedure on his right knee and ended up having microfracture surgery, which means he will sit out the season.
"Greg looked at me as he was coming out of his surgery, and he and his mom Zoe probably said 'sorry' 20 times," Blazers general manager Kevin Pritchard said. "I could feel the weight of the world on his shoulders. And as a leader and as leaders of this organization, my first thought was how lucky we were to have a guy that cares about the organization that much."
Dr. Don Roberts performed the surgery to repair the damage, which Pritchard described as the size of a fingertip. Oden is expected to be on crutches for up to eight weeks. Full recovery likely will take six to 12 months, the team said.
"At this point in time, we don't see him coming back this season," Pritchard said.

Amazing...
I wonder if he'll lose any edge after sitting for so long?

I feel bad for the guy, he actually seems like a down to earth good kid and know this could possible screw with his entire career. I wish him the best of luck.

Watching ESPN this morning, they said this "micro" surgery is something is usually done on the elderly with severe arthritis...They kept making reference as to how Oden just seems to carry himself like his body has been taking a beating for years, even though he's only 19 years old and in his physical prime...
Then, Jamal Mashburn and Allen Houston told their stories of when they had the same surgery...They said it definitely slows you down...The one thing both of them said was that they lost their "explosiveness" and it also took a little away from the jumping ability...

I wonder if the Blazers wish they had taken Kevin Durant now. Mark my words, Oden will never become the player everyone expects him to be and he will be considered the next Sam Bowie.
You start out motorcycling with a full bag of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience before you empty the bag of luck.
Some people are like slinkies; they're good for nothing but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.
