Default Hockey?? Anyone??

Does anyone here enjoy hockey??

I can honestly say that I used to be the biggest fan of the NHL in the world. I loved it.

However, the lockout that ruined the season and the way they have changed the game have really turned me off to the game...that, combined with the fact that it's extremely difficult to pay attention to because nobody I know has the "Versus" network make me really not have much interest in it anymore.

I'm watching it on NBC right now, and hopefully it can rekindle my interest, because I used to love this sport with all my heart...but it has done some things recently that I really don't like...we'll see I guess.

hell yeah, I LOVE hockey.... i used to drive a zamboni for a lil while. that whole lock out shit was bad for the game and i dont necessarily like the new rules either. they wanted it to be higher scoring and faster, so go change the soccer rules, u can watch a whole 90 min game and may never see a goal and only 3 shots. im pissed at espn for dropping hockey cuz they put dumb shit on espn sometimes like spelling bees and dominos and crap but hockey has to be on the versus network CRAP i tell you.

the versus channel comes with the standard cable package that i get through brighthouse

I like going to hockey games and watching but I can't stand watching it on TV. I guess it's just more exciting being there.

Yah, don't get me wrong, I like scoring and fast play, but how long is it going to be before they just make "checking" a penalty??

It seems to me like the league is trying to eliminate almost all of the contact for the sport, and that's what I used to love so much...the big, bruising defensive struggles.

I guess, to me, a game that ends 2-1 is just alot more exciting than a game that ends 8-2. At least in the close, low scoring game you have the drama provided by the fact that any shot could change the outcome of the game completely.

ur absolutely right, there used to be 100 point scorers like every few years, now theres like 5 a year. people are gettin hat tricks all around cuz u cant touch them. the new rules even made people retire cuz they couldnt keep up with the kids without hookin or gettin a body on them, and predominantly defensive teams when down the tubes. it amazes me u cant check someone but they can still fight. although i shouldnt say that 2 loud cuz theres prolly a nhl ambassador who owns a sportbike and is gonna read this and make fighting illegal

Wait. You mean other sports exist?

I live for my beloved hockey season. I only watch football cause every one I know likes it. I could give a damn really. Hockey is THE sport IMO.

Okay- i am still pissed off over the lockout. That was just stupid and they deserve the loss of fan base and ticket sales that resulted. I'd like to collectively slap the players, league and officials over that.

I'm a die hard....DIE HARD fan of the Boston Bruins. I grew up knowing the inside of the Boston Garden as well as I knew my own house.

Yes I know- they suck. Blame the owner and general manager. Worst management in pro sports history. Take a team with that kind of history and run it strait into the ground. The owner should be shot on sight.

Nonetheless, they are my team and I remain loyal to the big B. I'd just like to see a contract taken out on the ownership.

After the B's I am a long time fan of the Maple Leafs (hey, I'm a purist, ORIGINAL SIX!!!).

Like most of you, I miss 'old time hockey' (to rip off the Hansons- and if you don't know who they are, leave this thread right now!)

I'm far less interested in twinkle toes ballerinas like Kariya than guys that can lay down a hit like..... I dunno......BOBBY FUCKING ORR!!!!

But I was there the night they retired Terry O'Reilly's number. Most penalty minutes in Bruins history. Old Time Hockey

Other than the Red Wings, the Leafs are my favorite team as well.

Like you, I truly enjoy the fact that the NHL has such storied teams as the "Original Six."

I play. As mentioned above in a different post, I will watch it on tv, but most likely wont. Just not as interesting to me.

i like the new rules. it allows the skilled players to play.

i wasnt a fan of the slower clutch and grab, meathead style of hockey.

that and i love the new overtime format. shootouts are awesome.

I like hockey as well but here you have to have Comcast cable to get it. The Flyers are owned by Comcast, so needless to say I don't see many games. Don't have $60 a month cable bill, don't want it. But, I try to keep up with it in the papers. Don't know why the Flyers got rid of Ken Hitchcock, good coach. Maybe it's a "rebuilding" year, maybe management don't have a clue. We'll see,

You have to revise your statement.

"it allows the skilled players to play." is not accurate. What about the skilled defensive players??

The new rules were made for one reason: to up scoring. This reason is to attract more viewers to the sport.

The new rules don't allow all the skilled players to play, it allows the skilled offensive players the ability to play.

What's next for the NHL, making checking a penalty altogether??

I agree. the new rules pretty well suck. The league wanted faster games and higher scoring..

Well it isn't faster if there is a stoppage of play every 20 seconds for some penalty even a replay doesn't reveal....

And if I lacked the attention span to watch a game for 30 seconds without someone scoring, I'd watch basketball. It's like short attention span theater.

Scoring in Hockey means something. It's not happening every possession. It takes FAR more to light the lamp in hockey than dunk a ball in a hoop.

The league went totally the WRONG WAY with these rule changes. I like losing the two line pass. I wasn't a fan of the old Trap in the center ice. But you can change the rules to void that. Changing rules so there is a score every other minute is just stupid.

What's worst- after the first month of outrageously high scores the players figured out the rules and look- most scores now are not significantly higher than before the rule changes. Lots of 2-1, or 1-0 games.

Like quarterbacks in the NFL- the owners have pressured the NHL to protect goalies to the point they are all but untouchable, even when 20 feet outside of the net! Just too much money paid for goalies and the owners don't want them hurt.
I say if you fear injury- then Hockey is not the sport you should be playing- go take up professional checkers.
