not that many of you really care since hockey fans seem to be few and far between, but anyway. mario lemieux retired after 17 seasons with the pittsburgh penguins. he leaves as #7 on the all time scoring list with 1723 points (690 goals and 1033 assists). he is still the owner of the team, and hope he can continue to keep them in pittsburgh.
he is 40 now, but back in the early-mid 90's he was a monster on the ice. led the pens to back to back cups in 91 and 92, then in 93 he was diagnosed with hodgkins disease. he went thru treatment and came back after missing 23 games to make up ground and win his 4th scoring title after being 18points down. he played from then till about 97, when he retired for the first time. then the penguins got into financial trouble and he bought the franchise, and later came back to play for them in 2000... just some history for ya
its sad but i doubt that the penguins will carry the pittsburgh name much longer... I've always played hockey (and every sport for that matter) and hockey seems to have just been dieing in past years. Just look at your local dicks! (I suddenly realized that other states might not have these and to stop any obscene jokes i figured i'd explain that dicks is a huge sports store... nothing else lol!) Anyway... dicks used to have a huge hockey section... now it has nothing... its sad, but true.

That sux. That guy is awesome. But since he owns the pens he gonna at least come back as coach. That franchise needs a kick start. Bring Fluery back. Good prospect.

There aren't stupid questions, just stupid people.
he still was was on pace at more than 1 point per game.. the man would still have been in the top 10 in points if it wasn't for his injuries. But like he said, his health and family is more important.
Going to miss seeing him on the ice..

he's not planning on coaching, and actually looking for potential buyers of the franchise. if pittsburgh doesn't build them a new stadium by...i think...2008, they're moving from pittsburgh. a casino firm has offered to build the new arena if the county grants them a slots license, but thats not very likely. This may just be the end of the pens.
...you mean, retires again, don't you? I thought he retired briefly after the hodgkins disease thing, back in the mid-90s, then came back after a brief coaching stint.
