Default College football question

Recently the UW Badgers have had a rash of players being arrested. They seem to always slide through the judical cracks, and no body outside of Wisconsin hears about it. There was a TV stolen from Best Buy, sexual assaults, numerous physical assaults, etc. Does this happen elsewhere or do we just import the biggest losers? Being a UW alumnus I want the team to win, but the players should be responsible for their actions.

Sure it happens elsewhere. Florida State was busted back in the 90's for giving its players free shoes, hence its nickname "Free Shoes University".

Oklahoma had a player named Dusty Dvoracek (still playing for the Sooners) arrested for a fight at a party. Lots of D-1 programs have players and coaches arrested for stupid shit all the time. The AD's, coaches, and the NCAA let that shit slide with a mere slap on the wrist because TV networks pay them big money to cover college ball. Who wants to tune in to see a bunch of no-name players who behave? I didn't think so either. Welcome to big-time college ball, dude.

1995 - Lawrence Phillips played running back for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He was a possible Heisman candidate, but then he jumped the wall of a building and broke into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment and beat the hell out of her. He pleaded no contest to the charges and was sentenced to one year’s probation. While on probation he was arrested for drunken driving in California, which led to a 23-day jail sentence. He went on to continue this streak throughout the NFL and finally into the Canadian Football League.

He wasn't the only Cornhusker ever to be arrested, but he was one of the more memorable ones.

Baylors Basketball program had a player who killed one of his teammates and the head basketball coach tried to cover up NCAA violations by telling assistant coaches and players to lie and say the murdered player had been dealing drugs to pay for school.
