Very astute observation. Taylor is a decent back, yeah, but we all know that VY is the reason the 'Horns raised the crystal ball here.

Texas defense, IMHO, is overrated. How many yards did they allow USC last night? Oh, that's right, 500+. C'mon, they had the Thorpe Award winner in the secondary. That alone should have kept the USC O-unit under 200 yards. <<dripping with sarcasm

And for the love of all that is holy, one good stop by Texas when EVERYONE knew it was coming (White's rush on 4 and 2) is absolutely no reason to gloat. Hell, Pee Wee teams would've seen that shit. Let's not forget this one fact: USC was busy leading Texas by nearly TWO SCORES. Then they shit the bed. Please come back to reality and realize that without USC's errors on both sides of the ball, USC would continue reigning atop the CFB world.

Without USC's errors? How many turnovers did Texas have? How many penalties did Texas have? How many 3rd down penalties did Texas have that gave USC the first down when they otherwise would have been stopped? Texas missed an extra point and a field goal. Sure, Texas' defense knew what was coming on that 4th and 2 play, but what else had they run all night with Lendale White? Thats basically the only play White ran the entire game, and it just came down to Texas' defense wanting it more than USC. How many rushing yards did the Heisman Trophy winner have? How many all-purpose yards did he have versus how many he usually has? Bush was held to less than 100 yards rushing. Did you notice that after Leinart scrambled at the end of the 2nd quarter and got hit in the teeth that he never scrambled past the line of scrimmage again? Heisman Trophy winner Matt Leinart was scared of the hard-hitting Texas defense. Late in the 2nd quarter Leinart had the opportunity to run and make the first down, but he would have been hit once he passed the line. Leinart threw the ball away. Leinart was sacked twice for a net loss of 13 yards. The Longhorns Defense held USC to a net 215 yards rushing, far below their average. USC averaged 5.7 yards a rush, also far below their average this season. Texas put the ball on the ground 4 times, USC once. If Texas can recover from these errors, why couldn't USC recover from their one fumble on a bone-head lateral by the Heisman-winning Bush? Both teams had nearly the same total yards gained (USC 567, Texas 566), but Texas was more well-rounded with 297 yards rushing and 269 yards passing. USC had 215 yards rushing and 352 yards passing, with nearly all of it coming from the 2nd half. Texas averaged 8.2 yards per rush and 6.7 yards per pass. Vince Young was 31-40, Heisman carrying Leinart was 31-42 passing. This is all with Texas' defense being riddled with injuries and cramps for the length of the 2nd half. Texas was missing nearly half of their starters on defense nearly the entire 2nd half. If you want to see who the better team was, look at the stats, they'll tell you anything and everything you need/want to know.

Texas has the number 1 ranked offense in the country, and the number 6 ranked defense. Texas' defense is NOT overrated, USC is/was overrated. Speaking of overrated: Reggie Bush is overrated. A nationally accredited running back being held to under 100 yards in a clutch game against an "overrated" defense illustrates how overrated he really is. Vince Young should have won the Heisman, and he showed the world why when he played in the Rose Bowl. Vince Young rushed for 200 yards and passed for 267. He has taken the place among few college players to be able to account for that kind of rushing and passing attack, and even fewer to do it in the Rose Bowl, in the National Championship game.

Errors are part of a football game. Texas had far more screw-ups and brain farts and fumbles than USC. USC's loss can NOT be attributed to their errors. They were out played and out-matched. It doesn't matter if Matt Leinart seems to think that "[USC] is the better team." It is obvious that they were not. Every football team makes errors every game, no team is ever perfect. If Texas overcame their greater errors than USC's to win the national championship, then USC's loss cannot be attributed to their errors.

I still believe that w/out VY, TX wouldn't be where they're at. he is a great player, and very dangerous because he can throw and run that ball down where it needs to go. as for reggie bush, he's rllly hyped up... therefore whenever they put him in, everyone concentrates on him... leaving more room for lendale to gain yardage whenever he is in. don't get me wrong TX played a great game, and as sad as I am to see USC lose, i'm not sure a lot of people will disagree w/ me that it was a great game to have watched whoever they were rooting for.

in retrospect... i do also have to give credit to the TX line, for givin' both VY and SY room and the TX defense was holdin' up great before most of them started to cramp out

but wtf?! man, USC's defense just let everyone catch the damn football ok, i'm just wanted to ranting about that one

Ya, USC's defense was really playin pretty crappy, especially against the pass. But then again thats what you get when your defense is ranked 39th and pass defense even lower (in the 60's, i believe)

but ya, it was a GREAT game, I hardly sat down at all. And ya, they shoulda given the entire Texas defense some Midol... Seriously... When I used to play a lot of the bigger guys ('cuz they're the ones that generally have problems with cramps) would take midol before games and at half-time to keep from getting cramps...

But lendale was gaining so much yardage because he is a GREAT power runner. He's nowhere as quick as Reggie Bush, but he is a hard-hitting in your face runner. Texas has a back much like lendale, he's just a true freshmen and has a problem fumbling the ball, like most of Texas' backs... But Melton will work hard in this off-season and spring training and will be a great asset and short-yardage back come next season... Also Jamaal Charles will work a lot on holding onto the ball and he will be an amazing back and Heisman Candidate...

But I, as well as most anyone else, enjoyed that game immensely. It was easily the best Bowl game... As Mack Brown said, this game was better than the hype...

I didn't like that comment by leinhart at the end of the game how he believes SC is still the best team... even screwed up and said they won when they lost, guess that's what happens when you're on a win streak. Hey, if Booty starts as QB next season, at least he won't have the pressure of keeping that win streak going

Texas won the National Championship? NO SHIT? You have got to be kidding me, man. This is un-fucking-believable. I...I just can't fucking believe it.

Enjoy your team winning the title game. At this pace, Texas should pick up another trophy in 2040.

You are high. Vince Young didn't win the Heisman, boo-fucking-hoo. It's a meaningless award anyway when you think about it.
