Actually man, they all have their ups and downs. But I loved the YFZ. We might be getting another one of those once they come out with Fuel Injection. The Raptor is amazing for the trails and so much more comfortable hammering thru them. The KFX is nice and light with the aluminum frame, and has some serious power as well! Its a toss up, and I'm glad they were mine! lol

Bad ass quads. I'm just waiting on my house to sell and I'm picking up a new Arctic Cat 700EFI. I got my daughter an Arctic Cat 90 and she kicks ass on that little thing. I want mine so I can hit the trails with her, but I want a big bore to have the ass to launch a few jumps and wheelie it.
I was always a two wheel guy so my off road work was mostly on a KX250. No pix handy but it had the green frame and black plastics with green and black Fleshwound flames for graphics. Full race suspension, FMF Fatty pipe and shorty can. Dual reeds, and of course Pro Tapers.
Only nearly cost me a leg and made me into a cripple. But man, I loved that fucking bike!!!! I did an Arenacross in Denver and it was the best time I've ever had. The two years of hospitals and surgeries wasn't......
I'll get a utility quad, but I'll beat the shit out it because despite mud and rock crawling, going way too fast is just something I love dearly.......so you know it'll end up airborne.
The Cat line also has some nice features like a full 2 inch receiver instead of that faggy little 1 1/4 thing on the polaris. More ground clearance as well.
It'll either be the Cat 700 or the Brute Force 750i, which I hear has a monster motor.
The rule with the wife is, following what happened to me on a race bike, is that my quad must have racks and the tires can't be flat profile...............
Although I did have my eye on an old 99 yamaha (whatever they were then, 300-350 or something) sport model just for a cheap play thing that will serve to wheelie and noodle around with too.

I tried to get my daughter into the same local race club I was in when I got hurt. They list a class that's 70-90cc youth quad. Nothing more than that to the rules.
But I took her to the races- same track that crippled me, but the kids of course have a mini-track on site- and no one was racing youth quads. For that matter the adult quad class was all of 8 guys, compared to a couple hundred bikes.
Out here the terrain favors a quad over a bike. I have scars to prove that too. SO I'm surprised at the lack of participation in the class even for adults.
And there is no less than 7 manufacturers of 70-90cc quads with auto trannies and most have limits of 15mph in place. And yet NO ONE races them here. I can't fucking believe that.
I think it's because the 'official' age limits for the things according to the stickers is 12 for the 90cc. And most kids by 12 are way too big for a 90cc. So kids would either be racing quads too small for them (because the suggested ages are freaking asinine) or kids under that age would be riding them in an AMA sanctioned race............
But that sucks because my kid really wanted to race, and yes, despite what happened to me racing MX, I'd support her racing if she wanted. She mostly just wants to meet other kids with similar interests.

First pic is of course of my new fourwheeler, this area like you solly is more suited for a quad. last two pics are of me climbing on my old yami 350 warrior which you are thinking about solly, great quad, lots of low end grunt so you can wheelie away on it, and they have accessories for them like crazy so you could plow if you wanted even.

I currently have a 450 yami kodiak, great machine, nice and light so you can rip around on it all day long and not worry about getting tired, Jumps very nice as well, the only downside is it cannot wheelie.
The 660 grizzly is one hell of a machine, very light and fast
Had a buddy who had a 700 polaris, he hated it, to heavy, wore himself out right away riding it, so he finally sold it and him and his wife just have the scrambler 500 now.
so thats something to think about the wieght and size of the machine you will be buying solly.
as for racing quads, I have never done it, but my cousin used to volunteer as a paramedic for MX and quad races, he finally said that there were so many more injuries on the quads that they would have to pay him to keep doing it.
I think alot has changed now with nerf bars ect. but your right they still do not require much to go out on them.
Good luck with your daughter, hope she gets to race.

Well for me, I'm not worried as much about the weight. Just get a big bore and let the motor take care of business.
At some point I'll get the old lady her own quad, that'll probably be a mid sized model like the Cat 366 that weighs a little less. She's not hardcore, so selectable 4WD is plenty for her, she won't need the full on hi and lo range with diff lock. Less weight is better for her.
When I replace that house with a new one, I am looking for a place with a little land around it, so I'll appreciate a big bore for pushing a snow plow and working on the property.
The old lady likes the Cat 366 and the Grizzly. I pretty much settled on the Cat or the Brute Force. The Cat is simply less than the others here- I've been to the dealers looking at the jap models and the polaris (no Can-Am dealer handy to check out) but the Cat dealer just has lower list prices. Plus they were good dudes when I bought that 90, so I don't mind throwing more business to them.
I was watching a guy with a Cat 650 yesterday. He was a redneck asshole with no shirt, no helmet, basically the ATV version of a squid. But that thing hauled buckets and he launched it a couple times. So I think the 700 ought to have enough ass for me.
