Thank-you Kevin for showing what real racing is.....dayum, those races were the best, 20-30 lead changes, trying to get on the 500s without highsiding, parity in the power for the most part, it came down to guts, tires and flat out will.....

The GP should go back to 500's, the buzz, the smell the power... was more than enough, hell we are heading back with the 800 fours to that range of power.....

Yes its a primitive motor, but that was the beauty of it.....

Oh those were the days....

Wow, there was one point in the video (1:07) where he was in an S curve and in the middle of the turn his front tire came up for an instant.

A few of those saves where he almost high sided sent shivers up my spine.

That dude is fearless.

I'll tell you watching him take his place at the top in the late 80s and early 90s was truly something special....I remember being at 24 hr event, where our bike seized during practice and we never got to start...anyway this was at Willow Springs, Wera had sanctioned a regular race in conjunction with the 24 hr event and Kevin raced in it(Yoshi Susuki)....anyway he is coming up my buddy Steve going into turn 3, he over shot the corner and ended up in the dirt....what did he do?

He rode straight across the dirt connecting 3-4-5 and hoped on at the apex of 5 at about 90 mph, never backed off at all......

He was clearly the best rider I have ever seen, yes even better than Roberts.....

By the way that video from the 3:50 mark till the end just shows how truly sick it was to ride a two stroke 5oo, they were beasts for sure....

PS Paradise City just works on that video, oddly enough it came out right when Kevin was losing the front end for the 30th time in this video....

It was amazing how often and how hard they crashed in those days. The bikes highsided often and the racetrack safety standards were no where near what they are now. The 1992 year had so many crashes.

Some notable crashes from that era; dates I'm not sure about...
--F. Spencer running his knee into a curb, circa 1983. Ouch ouch ouch!
--Gardner going head first into a hay bale, ~1985.
--E. Lawson doing the same thing, 1991.
--Wayne Rainey horrible highside at Hockenheim. 1993--this is NOT the one that broke his back.
--Schwantz's double backflip at Suzuka. ~1989? Not sure.
--Synchronized highside with Doohan and Chili, ~1990.
--Doug Chandler's awesomely high speed crash at Malaysia, 1994? He just kept flying, and flying, and flying...
--Spencer's helmet smack in Australia, 1994.
--Doohan's haybail clip, 1994.

=================================

I am sure everyone that loves bikes has watched the DVD FASTER about the Moto Gp, but the line from the Valentino interview about riding a 500 cc two stroke...

He is driving in a pace car around the track while the guy is interviewing him, they ask him about the first time he rode a 500..

"Da, 500.....huh....fuck........." end quote

HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHA

Yea that was the beauty of that era and its ironic as the new 800cc 4 strokers are now retarding back to just about the 500cc 2 strokers....why?

Because the big bore 4 strokers were just too much for all the tracks that they race on as they are laid out currently....

So go back to the two strokes....for those of you that never smelled or heard a 500 cc pinned going past you at laguna, dayum, it was the best.....
