Just started packing clothes and such.. Weather looks like its going to be 70's most of the time, brought some hoodies just incase it dips lower. But jeans long sleeve shirts and one set of thermals is about it besides that.
We are trailering the bikes down there. Going to start in Asheville and ride west along the blue ridge into TN. Really have no places set for us to stay yet. We figured we'd find motels as we went. Hell we might even sleep in the truck once or twice. (just two of us)
We'll be able to bring plenty of equip in the trailer, so im not worried about that. I also have a tank bag and two saddle bags for our long excursions, but i'd rather not use them unless I need.
We plan on driving the truck somewhere, parking for a couple days and heading out on the bikes, then back to the truck, driving somewhere else and repeating. I'll have 9 days down there.
Anyways... Im going to hit up the dragon obv. the better half of the blue ridge, cherralo skyway (sp??) Where else, what else do I need to see and do while im there. I bought some detailed maps... this is kinda a wing it vacation/road trip so I dont need alot of planning, just some key points to guide us along the way...
Either way I'm pumped! When I'm done with this trip and this brand new set of power pilots i put on, I'm going to get some more "touring oriented" tires and use the F4 for touring trips, without trailering... and hopefully buy another bike for more spirited riding (600RR or such)

The act of riding is a form of meditation, because the concentration that's required to safely ride a motorcycle tends to focus the mind in a way that eliminates other mental distractions that might interfere with the mission. This creates a single-mindedness that, in effect, displaces the continuous stream of thoughts that normally flow through our consciousness.

I can't say I wont go over the limit, but I can say I am not going to ride these roads like the twisties by my house.... if for no other reason I don't know them and dont want to go down. I dont mind burning roads I know, but when it comes to brand new ones its not worth it!

I wish I had seen this earlier. You should camp at Two Wheels Only Motorcycle Resort and Campground and use that as base camp. It is in Suches, GA and it is like a second home to me. I travel 600 miles from Ohio because I love the place so much. Very peaceful and great people. I have done it for several years. It is like camp central for all those great areas you mentioned.
